Fasting

First I would like to say hello to eveyone and I pray that everyone is doing well.  I have two questions that I would like advice with.

1.) The Lenten season is getting ready to begin.  Is is wise for me to fast somewhat during this season as a colon cancer survivor.  The diet doesn't differ too much from the way I normally eat.  It involves eating more vegetables and fruits, juices, poultry and fish.  I gave up red meat over 18 years ago.  I am basically giving up sweet desserts (my weakness).

2.) Do any of you second guess yourself?  My family carries the gene for colorectal cancer.  My mom died of this disease in 1994.  I am the second of my cousins to have had this condition.  The first one to be diagnosed was stage III and she has been 6 years cancer free.  I was also diagnosed as stage III and I have been 2 years cancer free.  The third cousin diagnosed was diagnosed wit stage 4 with mets to the liver.  She went through chemotherapy, radiation and had surgery to remove part of her liver.  Unfortunately, after a year and a half, her cancer returned.  I want to keep a positive attitude and not keep thinking what if.  Does anyone eer feel that way?

I truly thank you in advance for your responses and have a great day.

Peace and Blessings,

    Karen

    thanks karen, interesting subject

i don't think they are mutually exclusive.

i seem to keep my positive attitude and at the same time what if is always in my awareness, directing my therapies and life style choices.

worry and stress are unpleasant and also compromise your immune system, so i ask what if ? i live and beat this thing.

what if does not have to be negative, we can outsmart of mind, and fill it with positive alternatives.

that what i try to do, its works well most of the time.

    hugs,

    pete

ps if you fast, much sure you restore your protein levels, protein is essential for health.

    Hi Karen

If giving up sweet desserts is all that you will be giving up during the fasting period, you should be ok, unless you are also diabetic and take insilin...then you may need to monitor blood sugar levels more closely.

I think the question of "what if" or "when or if" comes to most of our minds.  We just have to remember to try to limit those times and consider each day a blessing, and ask for continued good health.

May only good things come your way,

    Kind words

Thank you so much Marie.  Thanks to you and Pete, I shall remain positive.  This year I will turn 60 years young.  Thankfully, I do not have diabetes, hypertension, heart disease or high cholesterol.  I am active with my college alumni, church, high school alumni, grandchildren, I mentor other cancer patients, and I continue to work fulltime.  Yes each day is a blessing and I plan to see many more for I have more work to do.  Thank you again and may only good things come your way as well.

    Peace and Blessings,
