recurring lung cancer

Hi everyone. Does anyone have any experience with recurring lung cancer. Met with DR. yesterday.  Something worrisome on CT Scan. Wants PET Scan and surgery. I am a 4 1/2 year survivor of STAGE 1A adenocarcinoma in LRL which was surgically removed. Now new spot close to chest wall. Dr says surgery will be open. First surgery was VATS how bad and what kind of treatment after? lymphnodes don't appear to be involved.

Thanks for any help

    Cathy,
    this really sucks.

    Cathy,

this really sucks. Please let us know how the PET goes.  My surgery was a vats too so I know little about the full on surgery.  I have read that it is easiest to sleep in an easy chair and to have a pillow available to hold when coughing or sneezing.  Praying that thiis just reflects an infection or irritation and that you need nothing after the PET.

I had vats and was told that if they had to they would do the open like they have been for years.  My understanding is the recovery is a little longer.  If this is inflammation the pet will also show a high suv.  Hopefully, it will be gone when they do the pet.  I had a 5mm in my lower left and it was gone upon a rescan in 3 months.  I had a cold and the dr told me to post pone the scan if I have a cold next time, as the ct will pick up everything.  I hope that its gone when they do the pet, but if not thank goodness its operable and can be gotten rid of.  I wish you well, and keep us posted. Thanks lori

Dr. didn't seem to think it had anything to due with cold that I did have. But also got pnuemonia and flu shot in November and felt like I was fighting something off since then. But as much as I hoped it was from cold. He didn't seem to think so. He also added that sometimes these things don't light up.
