in Esophageal Cancer #1

What a journey.I haven't posted in awhile. I peek in every few days, to catch up. Larry, my husband is recovering from chemoradiation! preparing for surgery. Pet scan is Monday to evaluate again. i have so much respect for all of you here. It saddens me to see the many battles lost, but what brave soldiers! Chemo was very hard for Larry, the nausea, the hiccups, mouth sores, hearing loss, he seemed to get them all. They cancelled last cycle due to his health.Now a month since his last treatment he is on the mend again, eating and exercising. Surgery is scheduled for Feb 27th pending pet scan results. much strength and prayers to all of you

    Wishing you and Larry the best of luck with the upcoming PET scan and surgery.  In my experience the chemotherapy was more difficult than the surgery. Not to suggest that an esophagectomy is a small thing; but with the surgery you are sleeping during the procedure, the hospital manages pain very effectively during the recovery, and once you get home it is just a matter of rest and learning how to eat with your new digestive system.

     Hoping for positive news tomorrow and a successful surgery on the 27th.

    I agree with Paul

    I agree with Paul.  The Ivor Lewis was a walk in the park compared to the combined Chemo Radiation and the hospital made sure I was in no pain while in their care.  Me and my wife went on a Honeymoon to the Grand Canyon between the Chemo and the surgery.  It took a couple of weeks but I was feeling great and we wanted to get the trip in and marked off our bucket list instead of trying to do it after surgery.  Best trip we ever took!!
