my dad just started ( 4 days back ) on folfox 6 with 180 mg oxaliplatin infusion followed by 2X2 oral xeloda (500mg) tablets for 14 days and then a 7 day break. making it a 21 day cycle....
has anyone had this protocol ? please share your thoughts/experiences.

Standard Protocol Here
Folfox with Xeloda or 5fu is pretty standard protocol.
The 14 on and 7 off strategy for Xeloda is also standard. Only the dosage differs....I was doing 4000 mgs a day...
It got pretty toxic for me and my feet were a mess....so we switched to a 7 on and 7 off plan....if things get too intolerable, suggest this option....
The bad taste in his mouth is the "metallic" from the Oxy itself.
One other thing I could add was that if the cold sensitivity is being experienced when cool or cold drinks are tried...have the onc infuse Magnesium Sulfate...known as "The Mags."
If it works, it will significantly reduce the cold sensations in the throat and make treatments more tolerable...usually for me it was about 7-days before I could drink anything cool...and the taste was altered, of course.
Mags makes it possible to drink cold liquids right out of infusion...a miracle if it works for you...but it does not for everyone...still, it's worth a try...and you'll know on the first dose, if it is going to be a benefit for you.
Your onc may dismiss this notion....press anyway...one time cannot hurt here....and may make a world of difference in the outlook of the patient in treatment.
It's the little things like this that we miss...that cancer takes away...cancer is always about concession, concession, and concession.
The key for us is how much we can take back.
Good luck!

Xelox
I did something similar and did well with it. I had an oxy infusion and was on Xeloda for two weeks and took a break for one week. I only did 2 treatments of it because I had just completed 6 of Folfox. I always have done better with Xeloda than 5FU.
