burns and radiation
Hello again--
Has anyone had 2nd or 3rd degree burns and NOT had to delay treatments? I have only 3 treatments to go, tomorrow, Friday, next Monday and Tuesday but I think the external burns may either be infected or simply "wet" and oozing, but I plan to tell no one because I just want to get this over with.

I had 2nd. degree burns externally, but had no delays in treatment due to my condition. My only extra days off from treatment were 1) Labor Day holiday and 2) machine was down.
2nd degree and weeping onward we went. Thanksgiving was my only break.

Hey, guys, good to know, thanks. I'm still reluctant to say anything to anyone and risk a delay so I'll wait till after the last treatment (next Tuesday) and have the gastroenterologist tend to it. Thanks for the quick response!

My burns were severe, oozing
My burns were severe, oozing all the time. The technicians felt I was to burnt to continue with radiation and refused to continue treatment until the radiologist came in and looked at how burnt I was. He said continue radiation. I was so happy! My other radiologist at Cleveland Clinic said I was burnt more thant most people and that is good because that means the radiation worked better on me than most people. I have stage 4 and have been in remission since 2011.

I just wanted to say good morning and let you know that you are in my thoughts this morning. Three more to go and you'll be done. Your treatment will end on a Tuesday just like mine did. I thought that having the weekend stuck in there between was helpful to me in the push to continue on. I hope you have a restful weekend, especially knowing that you are about to cross that finish line. Hang in there, you will make it!

Thanks for the info Horsepad,
Whatever the situation with my burns, I have only 2 treatments left so barring any other unforseen circumstances, I expect to go to the end without interruption. I have an appt with the gastroenterologist to look at the burns later on the day of the final treatment since that's the only doctor that I trust.
Good to know that you had a full remission from stage 4. Thanks again.

Wishing you the best! You're almost finished and then the healing will begin. It was always nice to have the weekend to recuperate.

I find that the weekend is a psychological break, not a physical one. The pain and burns continue without abate and in fact, seem to worsen despite the time away from treatments. I suspect that the 2nd degree burns are infected as there's now a faint odor. I just have 2 more treatments. The first degree burns in the groin are painful as well, but in a different way since the skin isn't broken. I'm now concerned about the oxycodone; I started at small dose (my choice) and in 5 days, had to slowly increase if four-fold to create the same degree of sleepiness (I can't comment on the pain-killing effects since it didn't seem to have any). I'm going to lay off the ocycodone before I have yet another problem to add to the growing list.

get doctor to look at you to see if infected.... might be able to tell from bloodwork..i was put in hospital and had a vancomycin resistant enterroccocus bacterial infection that was really hard to get rid of..... i think they found it in my blood work but did an anal swab later to check for infection.... my skin peeled off... i had brown , red, and black areas.... i used squirt bottle to keep area as clean as possible then i would dry with fan....all my anatomy was so swollen that i never thought it would go down to normal but it did....i also placed a silk pillow case on the bed under my bottom so that when i had to get up , it would not pull on my anal tissue and tear it..... YOU CAN MAKE IT!!!! sephie

Until now I had forgotten all about that. I did the same thing just to make it easier. I used it in bed, but also, chairs and car just to make swiveling and repositioning easier. I didn't use it for real long but sure helped when I did.

If there is any chance of infection get yourself to the doctor ASAP. What you do not need is an antibiotic resistant infection!!!!
Pls keep us posted..... Lorikat
from first day one of the tecks. said to use sunburn lotion after treatments . just make sure to wipe clean before treatments , then use again right after .
