I had a catscan Monday. Still no evidence of cancer in the colon, but the colon cancer tumors in my liver are shrinking. ONe of the appeared to be gone! It has been two months from yesterday that the rectal abcess got me into the hospital. I am very thankful, because the catscan for that was what showed the mets in my liver (stage 4). I was told by my surgeon there was no cure, usually a matter of months to 3 years. I have never had a panic attack; I could not breathe. It was just him and me; he had to call my fiance. Thankfully my oncologist called that evening; he told me that it was treatable (like diabetes). I have a lot of good, healthy liver! He is very happy with my response to chemo (Folfox + Avastan). I had tx #4 today, so I am attached to the pump for the weekend. I am also doing a natural "purple potion." My fiance started doing it while I was in the hospital. He was told he had stage 4 melanoma the day before I went to the hospital and found out I had "suspicious" places in my liver. When it rains it pours. A guy from his work also had stage 4 melanoma and told Jim (fiance) to try this. Well, his tumors started shrinking before he started chemo two week ago today. Like we said, we are not putting all our eggs in one basket. It doesn't interfere w/traditional tx. I really have not posted much on here; I think it's time I do! I appreciate that people are sharing on here; I have a little notebook and jot things in it...if I have surgery on my liver, I need to use Tagamet before and after.  RFA, HIPAC, etc. So keep sharing, and I will do better on my end (good and not-so-good).

    Good to hear from you. Goodness, you and your fiancé diagnosed so close together. You're right, it usually does pour when it rains.
    Glad to hear the scan is looking good. I'm curious what the "purple" potion is. I'm jotting down things, too. I wish I had known about the Tagemet sooner, but I'm taking it now (off chemo).
    Enjoy the weekend (as best you can with the nice take-home pump). Maybe there's good movies on tv. :)

    Hi Judy,

    I guess to look on the bright side you and your boyfriend can go through chemo together and get all this unpleasant cancer business over with at the same time. Your scan results sound great. Congratulations. Take it all one day at a time. (I'll bet you're sick of hearing that one by now!). You have a lot going on in your life. Good luck to you. I wish I could go back in time with regards to the Tagamet.

    "Purple Potion"

    It is called Vitae Elixxir. I was quite unimpressed when my fiance told me he had ordered this on the internet. BUT, a couple of people at the mill he works at used it. One had melanoma stage 4, the other had breast cancer that had spread to the left side of her neck. She did some chemo to please her family, then stopped. "George" had been on chemo and the melanoma kept coming back. The final place was up in his sinuses and lymph nodes. They had to literally peel back his face to remove the tumor, as well as many nodes from his neck were removed. Then they wanted him to go to Boston to a month of heavy chemo. He said no, he went back to his hometown in Maine to live the rest of his days. Someone in his town mentioned the elixxer; he had nothing to lose by trying it, as it just kept recurring. He is on his ninth year of being NED. He uses the elixxer (about four drops daily now) for maintenance to keep from a recurrance. The lady w/breast cancer is NED (still at the mill). It's one of those things I would have said "quack quack" if it wasn't for these real people Jim knows. If you google it, u'll see the positives and those that say it's quack. But like I said, I wouldn't have believed it either. On have noticed when I get the pump off, and I have the couple of days that I'm tired after, the rest of the time I have had more energy than I have had in years! I think this has been a big immune system boost. Hey, it has given us hope; neither one of us had a great prognosis.

    Yep, it was a very ironic situation when we were both diagnosed (well, with me the lesions on the liver were seen on the first catscan..."suspicious in nature"). Friday I went with Jim for his initial consult. We walked into the cancer center (It's five year old, very comfortable and inviting, without the "hospital" feeling. I remember my words to Jim as we walked in there that first time..."Wow, this is nice. If I had cancer this is the place I'd wanna go." Little did I know...we both have the same onologist. Jim is on a chemo pill that has only been around since last Augst...he has the KRAS mutation, and it just happens that this is geared to it. I'm doing the chemo that most people are doing when they get the initial diagnosis of stage 4 CC. This forum has been very helpful; I wasn't sure if we should go somewhere else right off the bat. But I am very happy w/our oncologist...I am very comfortable asking questions w/info I get from here...THANK YOU ALL!!! This is a wonderful forum...

    Cold Climate

    We have been in the middle of a cold spell...negative numbers w/windchills...veeeeeeeeeery cold. I will be in this weekend, even though it is going to get back to "seasonal" temps!

    Thanks for posting what this purple potion is,  the site lists what herbals are in it......one of the herbs is St. John's wort .....i think St. Johns wort can interfere or interract with other medications....I would check on that to make sure it doesn't interract with the chemo.    Someone else on here may know better than me.....just I've seen you can't take St. Johns wort with some medications, which meds. I cannot remember.    I know I can't mix this with blood thinners I am on....and I found this.....April 9, 2002 -- Here's an important note for cancer patients taking the chemotherapy drug irinotecan. The herb St. John's wort can interfere with the drug's cancer-killing power, according to a report from the Netherlands. The effectiveness of other chemotherapy drugs may be similarly diluted by St. John's wort, say scientists presenting a report at the American Association for Cancer Research conference in San Francisco....the article goes on and you can google this to find more information.

    Hey Joe, thanks for the information. Our oncologist knows we are taking this in addition to our chemo. We called the company about the fact that St. John's is not good for the liver (a huge concern for someone w/colon cancer in the liver, mind you now!). There is just a very small amount in it. I am continuing it as so far my liver is improving; this includes my liver functions. Actually, my liver functions were fine before. But they have improved from what they were. But, it is important to look at it from all aspects!
