Mets to the adrenal gland

in Esophageal Cancer #1

I’m looking for the CSN member who’s husband was going in to have test done on his adrenal gland.  You had sent me a private message that got deleted by the system upgrade.  I’m sorry I’ve lost your contact information but I hope all went well with the test.  I’ve been hoping to hear how things went.

    Husband with met to adrenal gland

    Hello.....husband had adrenal gland removed Jan 14 in Houston, in hospital 3 days.  He says this was harder than the IL but he is recovering.  Scar about 10 inches long.  He is 75, and has been sleeping a lot.  Eating is fine and only one pain pill a day now.  We go back to Anderson on the 4th.  I think they were willing to do the surgery because this remained his only met after almost a year and the 2nd round of chemo and radiation had not touched it.  We were told they had recently done a study of 150 cases like my husband's and the results were inconclusive as to longevity one way or the other. My husband wanted it out as Dec. Petscan and other tests showed the tumor was now larger. His attitude continues to be good but what a beast this cancer is.  He eats well and his weight remains constant at 175.  An Endrocine oncology surgeon, a member of his EC team, performed the surgery which took about 3 hours.   Hope this info helps.  Nice to find you again.

    I'm sorry to hear that the recoery has been hard but glad to hear they got it out!  I'm sure you both are glad its not growing in there any more.  Maintaing his weight is great news too. 

    Have you gotten the lab results back?  My husband has a spot on his adrenal but also had two spots on his kidneys, when they removed the spot on one of his kidneys we were all happy to find out it was not EC mets but renal cell (kidney) cancer which is much less agressive.  So we still think he was a stage one EC patiant.
