fundraising for brain cancer
Thinking about all of us who have lost someone to brain cancer. Thinking about Cindy, Edna and Connie. I keep hearing about the breast cancer run. So I was wondering what is out there for brain cancer? I googled it. There is a run in Washingto DC May 5 2013. Just thinking about it... I am struggling everyday with the lose of my sister. I cant help her anymore. Anyway wondering what you all though.

there should be more
Hi Brenda:
There should be more for brain cancer. I was researching this morning about donating to brain cancer research. Many many people have been giving to our family and we would like to give them the option of donating for brain cancer. Initially I thought the National Brain Tumor Society, but now I am thinking of this American Cancer Society with a tag specifically for Brain Cancer because this discussin board has helped me so much. When I regain myself some, I may think of what I can do in Alaska (where I live). I like to run so if any of you all want to meet and run a race like this I would do it. Just Do It! God Bless.

Edna,
Check with you surgeon or hospital, we donate thru Johns hopkins University, with memo that is goes to Dr. Lims research, my husband brain surgeon who is doing brain cancers studies. We also donate to the cancer society, and have a relay for life team. Not all goes to brain cancer treatment/research but our familiy has been hit hard with cancer since Jan. of 2011.
Good Luck

American Cancer Society has a
American Cancer Society has a 2 day event, games, walk and music, that raises money for all
forms of cancer. Each teams sets up their own booth, and what type of cancer the are raising
funds for. We live in one of the smallest counties in Minnesota, yet we raise ove $70,000.00 each year.

I am not a runner but if they would let me walk most of it, I'd do the one in Washington, DC. It would a neat thing for those of us who have lost loved ones...or who have loved ones dx with a brain tumor.. to meet and walk/run it as a group, in honor of our loved ones. David use to live in DC and it would be especially meaningful to me. We all know that we would do ANYTHING to help conquer this so that others don't have to go through what we all have/are going through.
I hope you are doing OK Edna. For some reason, today has been a grief day. We have been traveling (visiting my nephew who lives in Grand Cayman, a tough gig!) and I was feeling like maybe I had crossed a thresh hold...that maybe the sadness was lessening and I could remember the good times without the heart ache. But then we got back home, and there are so many reminders and today it's a grief day. Maybe they will be fewer and farther apart as time goes by.

So Right -- there should be more...
I would like to know WHO is on the forefront of a cure for brain cancer? None of the treatments offered today offer promise. Surgery, Chemo, Radiation, Surgery, Chemo, Radiation, and death. WHO is on the forefront of offering patients promise -- of something good -- NOT a long suffering road to certain death.
WHAT ARE THE BREAKTHROUGHS that should give us hope? Different drugs? Different kinds of radiation? Better Chemo? WHAT ABOUT A CURE?
i love the fundraisers, I love the hype, but I've seen no progress in this endeavor. Sorry to be so negative. Part of it is losing a loved one to this disease -- hearing the doctor say, "you die with treatment -- you die without treatment."
Let's get this disease cured! Not treated -- CURED!
