Mary Ann called me today. She is hanging in there, but tired of being in the hospital. She has been there two weeks now. She still has both chest tubes. They talked about taking out the right chest tube today, but it was still draining too much. She is having leakage from around the chest tubes. She still has pain with movement. They stopped her PCA pain pump, so she needs to wait forthe nurses to bring her pain meds now. She has been walking some.
Someone from onocology did visit her, but no plan has been set up yet. Her cardio thoracic surgeon called them to visit her.
She can still use our prayers for a quick recovery.
I thank you so much on the updates with Mary Ann.... you're such a great friend!
I pray for her every day and when I see some news I cringe to open and read, but feel she'll be home soon.
Bless you~

She still has both chest tubes. They are still draining. They are talking about doing a procedure called "pleurodesis" to seal the hole. with this procedure they inject talc into the pleural cavity to bind the pleural linings together to hopefully keep the fluid from forming. They are going to try this on the lung that has the least amount of drainage. Then they are talking about putting in a smaller tube on the other side.
Mary Ann had just gotten back from her third walk of the day when I called. I talked to her husband while she was returning from her walk. She still has some leakage around the tubes when she gets up. It is still quite uncomfortable to move around. She is taking pain pills every four hours. She has "tape burns" from the chest tubes which are also uncomfortable.
Mary Ann spirits are still good. Her sister and neice are leaving tomorrow, so she did not get the visit she wanted with her family. But she said they were good for her husband. Just wanted to let you know that she still needs our prayers.

Poor Mary Ann, this is turning into some test of endurance, isn't it? I continue to pray for her daily and hope that the new procedure is successful. Mary Ann is such a positive and supportive member of this board - we need her back - soon.
Kindest wishes

They decided not to do the procedure as there was less drainage. So they took out the right chest tube. Hopefully the left one will come out in a day or two. Then they will observe her for a day or two, and then hopefully home by the weekend. She is still taking several alks a day and remains in good spirits. I talked to Rudy today. Lets pray that she can be home by the weeken.

Mary Ann update
Mary Ann is having the other drain tube removed this morning and may be discharged home tomorrow. She will see thoracic surgeon Monday and get an X-ray to determine whether fluid retention around lungs has stopped. Mary Ann is in good spirits, looking forward to getting home.
