My dad was diagnosed with
My dad was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer in Nov 2011 He is only 53. He kept on loosing weight but we never noticed until doc exposed this horrible news.
He went throught chemo from Dec - May2012 successfuly with great hope and strong will power. He has now started loosing blood through vomit and stool. Doctors have been lazy in doing endoscopy as they do not have senior at the moment in hospital so they are keep on giving him blood.
He is in hospital right now. What a strong man!! May God bless and live him long with healthy life.
It's the 3rd time he will be going through pathces to stop bleeding. I have learnt there is nothing much medical can do but what can we do make his life easy and painless?
I pray that nobody suffers from this disease. God bless you all0 -

Hi,
I was just recently diagnosed with stage 4 stomach cancer. It was a recurrence. I had gone 4 yrs. and thought I had beat it. I was happy to read that you are succeeding, but it made sad to read that you deserved the cancer. We all make mistakes, but no one deserves this. Good luck. I will try to be encouraged.
MY HUSBAND IS 24 YEARS OLD JUST FOUND OUT HE HAS CANCER IN HIS STOMACH CALLED ADENOCARCINOMA. he first went to the er and they said it was acid reflex then sent him home with a perscription. he continue having pain 2 months later he went to another hospital because he continue to have a fever and when they did his ct scan they said it was abnormal and also found fluid in his stomach they did blood work and all type of testing for 4 days they couldnt find out what was wrong with him, finally they said he had cancer in the stomach which spreaded to the pelvic area he has already done 2 cycles of chemo, he recently went to the doctors monday his doctor said he didnt THINK the chemo was working cause the fluid keeps coming back he refuse to look inside his stomach to see if the mass shrunk also refuse to give him pain medication and nausea medication, the doctor told my boyfriends mom to put him in hospice she said no because he never got a second opinon and that she didnt the doctor knew what he was treating so now hes going to tampa wednesday. he has lost alot of weight from not being able to eat alot. can somebody give me tips how and what he can eat0 -

One of my dear friends was Dx with gastric cancer stage IV 17 days ago. Her prognoses is poor. She has jaundice because the tumor is pressuring the liver and she is retaining the bio fluid in the liver. Her heart rate is very fast and her breathing aswell. She is only 34 y/o. I feel so bad for her and don't know what else to do to help her. She has a 1 y/o and 9 y/o daughter. SHe is inpatient right as I speak. She has also developed pnuemonia. They wont do surgery and they are not sure if they will give her chemo can anyone please give me an advise and have her in your prayers. She is also vomiting everything she is.
Thank you0 -
hi, my dad's going through
hi, my dad's going through the same thing. he tried taking chemotherapy once but he was just too weak to continue because of his low immune system, and he went through chemotherapy and radiation earlier within the same year because he had thyroid cancer (which is completely gone). he can't have surgery because the doctors said the tumor in his stomach is too big and the surgery might be fatal to him. he could barely eat and probably ate 3-5 teaspoons of his meal, which is pureed. right now what they're doing is giving him sedatives and morphin so he can sleep peacefully. my mom says they plan on continuing this method until he dies peacefully in his sleep. i know my dad still wants to fight but they don't know what else to do for him because we can't build up his immune system through food.0 -

Hi Hope, I am very sorry you are going thru this. I was in the same situation as you in January. My bf was 34, I'm 26 Jan 1st we took him to ER, jan 4th he was diagnosed with stage 4 stomach cancer adenocarcinoma and Jan 10th our lil first baby was born its been a lot for me. I am sorry to say things that may not be too cheering but unlike me I had noone to tell me the truth. He wanted to protect me he knew there was no cure and always smiled and said "I will be fine!" He lost a lot a lot of weight, keep ur husband eating anything he can! My bf had a jpeg feeding tube. Make him liquified food, he needs to eat to keep strong and fight cancer. * do all you can, unfortunately its not going to get easier. We went thru a lot and I wish I could have done much much more, but I had our newborn and it was very difficult but he enjoyed the little time he had with our baby girl. Keep him smiling, kiss and hug him all you can.... The memories and all the smiles keep me going each day, I stay strong for the gift he left me. Our daughter shines our days. My bf passed away in April I miss him a lot!. Cheer up bc only you can make him smile and be with him at all times. Redmind him of beautiful moments. Prayers goes out to him and you. *** tell him to stay strong and fight cancer** F*ck cancer!0 -

My dad, age 72, was diagnosed with stage 4 stomach cancer in mid February of this year. He had a massive amount of mets in the liver. I saw the CT scan - he had far too many tumors in his liver to count. By the time they found it he was so week he needed oxygen in the hospital. He barely survived his first two rounds of chemo and ended up in the ICU twice because of extremely low blood pressure due to dehydration. He spent most of February, March and April in the hospital. He couldn't eat or drink much of anything. It looked really bad and the doctors thought he wouldn't leave the hospital. The doctors stopped a chemo cycle early and lowered his dosage for the following chemo cycles to about half of what his initial dose was. He's been getting CT scans every two cycles (6 weeks) and his liver mets are shrinking by 30% each time. They only monitor the liver since poor liver function is what can be fatal - not the stomach. Also because they can't see the stomach tumor on the CT scan.
He started on Oxaliplatin and Xeloda chemotherapy. After 6 rounds of Oxaliplatin they discontinued it because of concerns about neuropathy. The oncologist was going to take him off the Xeloda too but we insisted he stay on it since some recent studies have shown that taking a break from chemo reduces survival time. The studies showed taking a break from the more toxic drugs like oxaliplatin and staying on the less toxic drugs like 5FU or Xeloda greatly improved survival. We will have to wait about a month for his next CT scan to find out if the Xeloda alone is continuing to reduce the tumor size.
We also have my dad taking PSK (http://www.mushroomscience.com/products/coriolus-super-strength-turkey-tail/) from Mushroom Science as well as AHCC. These seem to have helped him regain his strength after getting out of the hospital.
LisaLisa Congratulations. I'm so happy for you. I'd like to know how you did it. What drugs and alternative treatments did you do?
Good luck to all of you.0 -
I have gastric cardia cancerLarryT said:I am stage 4, stomach cancer, have survived for 2 years, 50 years old, and male.
To your question: I eat 5 to 10 servings of vegetables and fruits. A breast cancer study showed that having >5 servings of vegetables and fruits a day cut down cancer recurrence rate by 50%. I do not eat red meat. I do not eat salty, spicy, or oily foods. A rule of thumb is to eat fresh foods. Some traditional Chinese foods are bad in that regard due to special treatments for preservation. I exercise every day, starting from 10 min. a day last year to now 35 min a day. I sleep 8 hours a day. I appreciate life and am enjoying my life.
I went thru chemo and radiation therapies. The success rates of those treatments are low, about 30% per my oncology doctor, but unfortunately are the best one can find today. Never give up those conventional treatments. In fact the best defense against cancer is our body's immunity system. And the best way to build up one's immunity system is to do what I said above. Unconventional approaches can be supplemental. Miracles do happen. I have seen at least one success case. Just do not bet on it.
My life was not always like what I said above. I used to smoke, slept 4 to 5 hours a day, never ate breakfast, skipped lunch more often than not, had high pressure from work, and thus ill tempered. Looking back, I admit I deserved the cancer.
Encourage your brother. Never give up. Never!
I have gastric cardia cancer and one of my lymph node in stomach is positove and first pet and second pet scan show i have glow my left illiacc lymph node n biipsy show positive n its distance metasyastis and i still don t know what yo do one dr said they will laprovideo my stomach area see how bad n if possible dosurgery removal lymph.node from.my left pelvic and take out most of lymph.nodes andthen.withon two weeks syart chemo.for two.months or two cucle i tji.k then recover then.pey scan if clear then will do surgery.on.my stomach... My boyfriend(53years old) is suffering from Stage IV gastric cancer with peritoneal carcinomatosis. He went trough Subtotal Gastrectomy,Chemo and Radiation. Originally he was diagnosed with Stomach CA in July 2011. All treatment was finished in February 2012. On May 1st the PET scan showed NO cancer and we were so happy about it! However, this happiness was short-lived because at the end of May he started having problems with digesting his food; the food would stay and lay in his stomach until he had to throw it all up. Doctors tried many endoscopies and scans and said that the area where his stomach is connected to his small intestine was closed. So, apparently he had a recurrence of the cancer and this time the peritoneal area is involved. Now he gets all his feedings trough IV TPN. GI Doc was able to place two stents, but it makes no difference, he still can not eat anything. We have been from one hospital to another, from second opinion to third. In the beginning it was very promising that things would be okay and he would recover, but now the doctors don't want to do any surgery to clean the tumor and fix the blockage issue. We were hopping for HIPEC surgery at CTCA,but it's all been turned down because the surgeon thinks his cancer is too advanced and therefore the surgery may not work. I read a lot of articles, saw videos about surgeons who performed this HIPEC surgery successfully, and this made me belive that HIPEC is the only hope we have left. I don't know what to do anymore and how to help him! He gets continuous abdomen pain, like a bloating pain with nausea all the time, and only IV pain meds help for a short time before he needs to receive more.Hope24 said:rare case of cancer

Now he (we) in the hospital for a week already treating a PNA. Still very confused about everything is going on! Our last hope is Holistic Family Medicine with Dr.Thomas Cowan here in San Francisco. Tomorrow we have a phone appointment to discuss my boyfriend diagnosis and plan of care. The reason why did we choose holistic route is simply because the traditional medicine is "closed" for us!
Here is the link below, do your own search and I am pretty sure you will be able to find same clinic in your area.

Fat and happy two years after Stage 4 diagnosis
I was diagnosed with stage 4 adenocarcinoma of the stomach, HER-2 positive, full stomach wall thickness, lots of positive lymph nodes, maybe a tiny metastasis to the peritoneum. Partial gastrectomy, oxaloplatin for 6 or 7 cycles (yes, I do have some chemobrain), Xeloda two weeks on, one week off since then. Herceptin infusions every three weeks since them.
Currently, I am almost two years out with no cancer symptoms (only treatment side effects) and no evidence of disease. My long term prognosis remains a little questionable, but the prognosis for stage 4 is much less grim than it was even a few years ago, particularly stage 4 that is HER-2 positive.
I first read this thread two years ago and almost despaired. Please do not despair. In addition to the much improved three aments now available, there several more in development that may be available in the next couple years :-)0 -

wow did your dad do anythingSusan627 said:Nicole
My dad was diagnosed with stage 4 stomach cancer in early December 2010 that had spread to the liver. He completed 4 rounds of FOLFOX chemo. Towards the end he ended up in the hospital twice with C-diff colitis, however 2 CT scans were done & an x-ray that showed that the tumor had disappeared as well as the lesions on the liver. A week after being discharged from the hospital the 2nd time he went for a PET scan that also showed that the tumor & lesions on the liver had disappeared, he als went for an endoscopy, same story, tumor is gone. All the doctors are stumped & they do not know how to proceed. They dont know if they should do a partial gastrectomy as a precaution or just monitor him. He will see the surgeon again next week & we will know more then.wow did your dad do anything specific apart from the chemo? my husband is in the same boat just finshed 8 chemo treatments and seems to be doing a lot better .he had lost almost 40kg coz he couldnt eat in the beginning but over the past 2 months has managed to put back 12kg and he looks quite healthy now .but all the same till he has his first scan im still worried that the cancer is still there.
