Thank you, RoRo10 said:Mary Ann had her procedure this morning
Her husband called me this afternon and said the procedure went well. She is feeling much better and able to breathe easier. They took off 800 cc around the heart, 300 cc from a lung, and 1000 cc from somewhere else. Unfortunately this message was on the recorder, so I could not ask questions. That is a lot of fluid though.
I tried to call him back, but got Mary Ann's voicemail. I told her she had many positive messages on the board and many were praying for her. She will be in ICU over night and hopefully get moved to another room tomorrow.
Keep the prayers coming for peace and comfort for Mary Ann, and good news from the fluid removed.
As I said my prayers at bedtime last night, I asked for help for Mary Ann and this morning, there was your message saying that the procedure had gone well. I'll continue to offer up a prayer for her comfort and for her to be home again soon.
Thank you for keeping us all informed, Ro.
Kindest wishes
Helen

She said she felt " a gazillion times better" than she did on Monday. She got moved out of ICU this morning. She said they put in the shunt, and she has a chest tube in each side. She said they are still draining. She will have the chest tubes in for several more days. Then she will need to stay in the hospital another day after they take the chest tubes out.
She was in good spirits. Her sister is with her. She said that is helping her husband with all of this. She talked about her husband retiring and making plans to travel. So she is looking forward which is good.
Please keep her in your prayers.

Scary experience, I can only imagine. I so hope that they can get a handle on better treatments for her. Prayers still forthcoming--please do pass on our caring and concern.

Mary Ann
Hi folks. I am Mary Ann's husband; just returned from hospital. Doctors are continuing to drain fluid; she's lost well over two liters. They are keeping tabs on Mary Ann's kidney function, her sodium level has been dropping. She is on a salt pill now. The fluid that was analyzed contained cancer cells; not sure if that is a continuation of the cancer in the lymph nodes or an indicator of spread to her lungs. Oncologist, who does not have privileges at this hospital, has yet to outline results of PET scan. So we don't know if there are treatment options, or if it's time to bring hospice into the picture. She is in mostly good spirits. Her friend and former college professor, who is an ordained Catholic priest (not recognized by the church), visited today and performed the Annointing of the Sick sacrament and provided communion. It lifted Mary Ann's spirits ... This board has been a great support to Mary Ann, and it's my hope she will be in touch with you all soon - Rudy

Please give Mary Ann a big hug and a kiss on her cheek for us - much nicer than the cyber hugs we are limited to. Take care of yourself.

Mary Ann update
Mary Ann had a good day, upbeat mood, sodium level is up. Hospitalist had written an
order yesterday afternoon for Mary Ann to start taking salt tablets. The kidney doctor
showed up three hours later, telling Mary Ann that she did not need salt tablets,
writing an order instead for potato chips. I'm serious. Of course, this is an item not
stocked by the pharmacy, and the cafeteria (which was closed anyway) doesn't carry
chips. So an enterprising nurse entered the inner sanctum of the doctor's lounge and
stole away with two bags of vinegar and salt chips. Strange but true. They are
continuing to drain fluid. Mary Ann had a kidney ultrasound late today, not sure
what that is all about. I emailed her oncologist last night and asked for a call, and he
contacted Mary Ann this morning. He said he would talk to her about possible
treatment after she gets home. She's still not out of the woods, but doing much better.0 -
