This site's technology is really bad...
Sorry about the complaint. I've lived with this site's very poor technology for well over 6 months with the hopes it would get better. The speed, crashes, etc are terrible.
I'm very apprecitive for the people and the site for being here to support me and all of us, it's a great community of people helping and caring for each other, but if they need more money to get this to work better, please step up and say so, I'm happy to donate and pay / per year to make this work better. People rely on this to be there for them and to operate with some level of acceptible speed.

Michael, they're still working desperately hard to improve performance but the developers made the fundamental mistake of trying to make too many changes at the same time, instead of gathering all the requests, issues etc and then phasing the changes in in several stages.
Since I'm many hours ahead of the States, I'm on at quieter times so I can't reaaly know how bad it gets over there. Speed for me varies but is not too dire at present. Do you have a fast broadband connection or might your connection be part of the problem?
PS since I wrote and posted the above, Mike's post has appeared, while mine was uploading, so my connection is slow at the moment also, even with only 27 members online.
Is anyone else noticing bizarre listing of posts yesterday and today, with posts from 2003 and 2004 appearing at the top?

Wedge,
I consistently get 20-50 megabits per sec at home and with LTE on my mobile devices, 10-25 sec speeds. That's n0t the issue.
BTW, these issues were going on long before the recent changes to the site
They should accept donations for the upkeep of this site, there are many people I'm sure that would give $10-$100/ year to have this run the right way given the importance of it to our lives.

I often stop trying to get on board after 5 minutes or so of agonizing wait time. I need to play on.

When it works well, it's very slow.
Logging in takes many seconds. Sometimes I give up.
Today I'm having trouble typing replies. I have to hit a key more than once for it to go through. It's pretty bad.
It's the site. I'm having no such trouble on other websites at the same time.

The Board has definitely gotten slower/worse since upgrade. Oftentimes, I--like Fox--leave after tiring of waiting. Perhaps CSN should consider a rolling thread at the bottom that mentions the site is under development and to expect delays. And give some indication when upgrade is expected to be complete. I agree with others, it is frustrating.

You're right there - you've got at least 10 times the speed I have! I tend not to be bothered quite as much because I intercut my activity here with visiting other forums, reading and writing emails, reading academic papers etc, while uploading and downloading here, usually with dozens of different windows open, so I find it less frustrating. I do think it's a pity it's such a struggle though since, as you say, it's an important feature of life for many of us and we learn a lot from each other as well as receive support. I'm in fairly frequent touch with the CSN and will make further enquiry but I guess their hands are all too full just now!

One of the old features I miss is the ability to "touch" the photo or box to the left of posts and immediately get to that person"s bio page. Right away - if they gave the info - you got to see their medical history, and anything else they felt like sharing. It was cozy. An easy way to get to know someone better.

Nothing lost Peg - you still get it just by clicking on the name - it's a hot link also, as it was before, so picture or no picture, you can still get there in a single click. By the way, when are you going to treat us to a pic?

how to get notified when new posts or replies hit board
Does anyone know if there is an option to receive an email when new posts hit this board or when someone replies to one of my posts. I see people today responding to posts from months ago and wonder if the original poster ever gets notified that someone has responded to their issue.
Thanks.

I have reason to believe that we are about to see some welcome progress so don't despair folks and definitely don't go away.
HappyDays, that sort of facility works well on some sites and forums. I'm uncertain how good an idea it would be here and maybe other members could offer their opinions. If it's reckoned valuable, we could ask whether it might be possible to make it available.
Peg, please galvanise your Daughter and get that pic up - I'm sure you can manage it easily yourself though, if you try. Maybe you're just shy, like Ange? (Maybe you're both too vain and aren't satisfied that the pics you have available do you justice? )
