DISCUSSION

New chemotherapeutic and biologic agents, which prolong survival in patients with mCRC, present physicians with new challenges. With the availability of these agents, patients may require treatment for longer periods than ever before, which calls into question the optimum sequence and duration of treatment. Recent studies in patients with mCRC have investigated a variety of approaches to treatment, including intermittent chemotherapy [19], stop-and-go therapy [18212425], and low-intensity maintenance strategies [2021], with the aim of reducing the burden of treatment for patients. The present study is, however, the first study to investigate the role of maintenance with a biological agent alone as part of the treatment regimen.

Read it enjoy, i am not advocating hardcore chemo, but the slective use of appropriate agents may help some, my german onc likes the stop and go and low intensity style and of course directed by chemo sensitivity testing.

hugs,

Pete

    Maintenance chemo
My oncologist has me on maintenance chemo of erbitux alone for 12 cycles , weekly, that is about 3 months after completing the adjuvant chemo of FOLFOX and erbitux , after my colon and liver mets resection.

This week I am on a one week break due to the severity of the rash from erbitux. Have It all over the front, back, hands, face with White heads . Also to the scalp which is painful. Had 6 cycles so far format the 12 total that is recommended.

Hope the chemo works and my scans after this are clear.

Scans after the adjuvant chemo had three very small spots light up on the Ct-PET . However, Docs were not certain about the reasons for it and advised a wait and watch approach.as the cancer markers CEA and CA 19-9 were within range and had reduced. The next scans would've sometime in mid February.
