new diagnosis BCC

I just received diagnosis via phone yesterday. In denial. I went to derm to remove a wart and he? How long I had that blemish on the side of my nose near my eye. It has been there approx 2 years. It is smaller than a pencil eraser and is light almost white looks like a mosquito bite. I have been covering it with makeup not really to hide it. Just always applied a highlite to the hollow of my eye.. It would bleed sometimes and I would attribute that to a reaction to cosmetic.
The derm sent me to skin surgeon for biopsy as so close to my eye. The nurse called yesterday to give me the news that it is BCC.I dont see the surgeon again till Tues. I know that she will say Mohs surgery is best treatment. I realize that this is not a life threatening disease. Most of the BCC pictures posted look ugly or like an angry rash. This is not a bad looking blemish at all and my fear is that the "roots" may be deep after 2 years. The resulting scar may look worse. How will I keep a bandage on that area? Will I be able to return to work right away? Ok now that I have wriiten this out I realize that I am very vain. Just so afraid of the unkown. Anybody out there have Mohs so close to the eye? People seem to post as I am now when they are scared. I need to see more happy endings.

Anybody out there with "the good cancer""? I expressed my fear of scarring to the Mohs surgeon. She said that she would not do surgery as I would always wonder if I could have had a better out come with a plastic surgeon. Now waiting to consult with plastic surgeon. Still really scared. Will have to coordinate with Mohs surgeon. Would love to hear from someone who has been through this.

BCC? me too, under my eye
I have decided to try black salve. Put it on last night. Check out Best on Earth" black salve, I bought the basic Black Salve.

I cannot let them do microscopic MOHs--it's no telling how deep they would have to go to "get" all the cancer.

The black salve is purported to draw the entire cancer (growth) out, tiny roots and all.

Do a little research and have faith.

Hi I hope you don't mind me jumping in here. My cancer was DFSP(rare skin cancer that starts in the dermis) Its a spindle cell type and I had Mohs . I'm just wondering why you would consider this "Black slave." I will look it up after I finish this. But in the mean time I would like to say don't be scared of Mohs surgery,it's not as invasive as it sound and when your dealing with cancer don't you want to be told "yes we got it all" by the doctor. And if you have a plastic surgeon do it your sure to come out of it looking great. Please run this Black slave past your specialist and then make a more informed decision.
    Best of luck.

I did some checking on black salve
Well from what a read its ok for warts and moles which do have roots but not the same as cancer. And there are medical reports about cancer that has resurfaced after being treated with black salve. It makes the skin surface area clear up,, But it is NOT a cure and it has not been proven scientficaly There are even reports where people had cancer go much deeper because it wasn't treated properly when diagnosed. So I will probably give it a go on a couple of moles(which my dermatologist said would probably fall of anyway) but as for any cancers I may have to deal with in the future... I'll go with what ever the doctor recomends.
My advise charlief is, if you only use the salve please at least have another biopsy when/if your spot is gone don't assume you cured.
So now that I have finished carrying on like a mom, lol,,good luck best wishes to both of you.

    Moh's surgery
I would go ahead and have it removed by the Moh's surgeon. Ask for a good plastic surgeon to close it. I just had a basal cell on my forehead removed and then closed by a plastic surgeon. He did an excellent job. It will need some healing but should be fairly small.

Moh's surgery with plastic surgeon closing is a better option than having a plastic surgeon do all of it, they are not trained on the most up to date skin cancer surgery like a Moh's surgeon is.

Google Style Blueprint Louisville and then look under Health and Beauty. One of the editors of the blog has photos of herself with a recent skin cancer, before and after Mohs.

    MOHs surgery vs black salve
Thank you all for responding! I appreciate the suggestion of black salve but afraid to put it so close to my eye.
The ocular plastic surgen I saw said that it looked very superficial and she would prov leave it part open with very few stitches.
I was encouraged and had surgery scheduled with her closing. Then I got a call from pre-op Dept. They are not latex free so cant do.
Maybe a blessing in disquise! How up to date can they be if not latex free?
So now my confidence is shaken and prob wont be able to schedule till after Jan. That is a bummer because I have high deductable ins and just about covered it, will start over in Jan : (

    MOHs Surgery

    IMP2012,

Have the MOHs surgery! I had BCC on the right side of my nose right where the pads on my glasses sit and I was pretty scared. Got the MOHs surgery and they said they got it all. What  relief! I did have a pretty good crater on the side of my nose. Had 7=8 stitches but it really healed up well and now if people don't know me they can't tell.

I agree taht the latex free thing is an issue and it does make one wonder. Find a plce taht is more up to date, but don't wait!

    Oil of Oregano

Oil of Oregano kills a melanoma. It also is good for other skin afflictions and kills the "thing" without leaving scars. It's worth a try. You will need to cover it. I just put a drop on a small bandaid and then leave it there for awhile, then repeat the drop again. However, if your skin is recovering from a surgical procedure, you need to wait awhile to let the skin heal.

The other treatment to help heal scar tissue is using Calciuim benotite clay. it also will help in other ways to detox the skin. www.aboutclay.com

    MOHS scaring

Sorry to hear you have a BCC, I've been figting these for years and have a couple of MOHS. 1 rule, LISTEN to the doctor when he tells you how to clean the area after surgery, this will keep you from scaring. my first two Mohs involved either side of myforehead, if you can image having devil horns this would be the areas. The areas were the size of a kennedy half dollar and about 2-4 quarters (coins) deep and the surgery didn't leave any scaring, I did exactly what he said. The other sites have involed the ears and agin no scaring. Good luck if you have to get MOHS and there is VERY little pain, also I didn't get any stiches, the areas were to big for them.

I recently had Mohs surgery on my forehead to remove bcc. The Mohs Surgeon had to take 3 layers of skin before I received a clear margin. I had 11 stitches to close the wound. After the stitches were removed, the wound opened up completely. Apparently this can happen. Definately follow the after-care instructions to care for your wound. Apply Vaseline and keep the wound covered until it closes. It took about 6 weeks for my wound to close.

I am now dealing with another bcc on my lower eyelid. I chose to have frozen section procedure by an Oculoplastic Eye Doctor to remove the BCC and do the reconstructive surgery. I will be under general anesthesia at a local hospital. This is an outpatient procedure which should take approximately 1 1/2 hours.

Good luck with whatever route you decide to take.

Not sure how old this post is but I have had two bccs and one sccs in this last year (last 3 months really). This has all messed with my head greatly. I had a ecg for the bcc and mohs for the scc. My fears are more about the scc returning. I have a 2nd bcc to be removed soon. I would say listen to your doctor and learn to handle any scarring. I would say that any scars are worth it to get rid of the cancer. Best of luck.
