Ascites with peritoneal canciroma secondary to colon cancer.

My boyfriend was diagnosed with colon cancer that has spread to peritoneal activity. Can anyone share their story. I'm really worried about my boyfriend He's only 30 and i want him to live a long healthy life.

    Look up Zaltrap and HIPEC.
    Look up Zaltrap and HIPEC. There are several regimins that are effective for peritoneal cancer or mets.

    I am 49 and finally have peritoneal mets. USC Dr. Lentz, UCSD Moore's Cancer Dr. Lowe, etc....

    thank you for replying. I have searched HIPEC but not too many hospitals offer it.

    I have an appointment with Dr. Lentz on Dec 17th. We hope surgery will shortly follow.

    HIPEC is a controversial procedure. Some think it is great and others poo poo it. I asked about it a couple years ago, and they told me I was not far enough a long to have it. Now unfortunately, I am a candidate for HIPEC. Better or worse, I think it makes sense and I am going for it.

    Look for the treatment that makes sense for you. Go with your gut feeling. Every time I have not gone with my gut feeling, I redo another procedure.

    If Hipec was offered to my boyfriend i would suggest him to go for it. Im glad that you are a candidate and i hope you get cured .

    What has the ong recommended foe treatment. Your boyfriend is really young so he should be able to fight hard especially if he is in otherwise good health. I pray he does good with whatever treatment he goes on. Jeff

    My third surgery was HIPEC (2008)and blessed me with three good years of NED (No Evidence of Disease)

    I was first diagnosed at 31 but had a more simple presentation of rectal cancer without peritoneal spread. That does complicate things and will mean it is important to get good opinions from some one with expertise in that presentation. His young age does mean he may be a candidate for aggressive treatment- has he started anything yet?

    There is a lot of good advise and support here from people with huge experience so I hope you find what you are looking for.

    sorry you had to find us, i have some peritoneal mets as well, as well as lung and liver.
    i am going alternative treatments in germany and early indications are positive but it to early to tell, see my removab post.

    yesterday i did hyperthermia and i am on low dose chemo. I pray this stuff works.

    thanks everyone for replying,
    now i believe hes doing oxaliplatin and taking some pills called xeloda. the doctor said this is not curable but treatable. I am scared. Another problem is that he doesnt have papers and i dont think he will be able to get hipec even if hes a candidate for it he doesnt have insurance.
    I dont know what's going to happen.
    i wish everybody the best and i hope you all beat this horrible disease.

    He's awfully young. On the plus side, however, as others have said, if he's basically healthy in other ways, he can really fight hard against this crap, and that's an advantage. So don't give up hope just yet! Do you happen to know how many peritoneal mets he has? I had a small number that were removed during surgery, and have not returned in the two years since I had that done. Have they talked to him about the possibility of surgery?     I dont think she has reached NED yet, but since diagnosis she has been living two or three lives in aprallel - Stage IV cancer with peritineal mets ahsnt slowed her down one bit.

    thanks for your words i hope he beats this. and i don't know how many mets he has he was diagnosed just 3 months ago.But when i read this paper that the doctor wrote it said that the liver and lungs are in good condition but it is spread all over his stomach. Its just a shock to both of us hes always been healthy and we have been so happy.

    he is from ecuador. His parents live there and they cant come here. He only has me and his brother for support.

    WOW, such horrible news at such a young age. I have similar disease (Stage 4 with mets to liver, lung, peritoneal cavity) and I am 46. I just completed 10 of 12 rounds of FOLFOX + Avastin, and will be getting CT scans within the next month or so. First set after 5 Tx showed shrinkage of some tumors with stabilty in all others. Hopefully, at 30 he will be able to very aggressively treat this disease, and NED/remission is possible. Luckily, they are continuing to develop new options, so in a couple of years he may have more choices. Best of luck with the treatments.

    I hope the tumors continue to shrink. You are young too you can do this.
    I really wish there was a cure for every type of cancer.

    Good advice from Mike (Thxmiker). I am 60 yrs old and have peritoneal mets (had them for one year now). I consulted with Dr Lowe but was not a candidate for HIPEC. I am currently on Zaltrap and it's been a blessing. If your boyfriend is a candidate for surgery, I think Docs most always recommend it vs chemo only. He's young and I can tell you that good attitude is key in this fight.
