Happy News! I'm back on the ice!
I'm not fully healed - still get shots of pain, but have been off the heavy pain meds since Friday. I finally feel like I'm truly on the mend.
Thought I'd share the good news!

I am so darn happy for
I am so darn happy for you!!! Looks like you are coming out of the worst of it...The city north of me, is finishing some huge curling center and trying to get the Olympic Curling Team to practice there. So I know a little bit about curling.
Anyway, I am just so relieved to hear you are on the mend!!0 -
Thanks! I would BUTabrub said:Seattle has a curling club
Try it there during one of their Open Houses!
Unfortunately we don't live on Whidbey Island anymore. We're in western South Dakota near the Black Hills now. Boys and I left there in Nov '94 to come here aand Hubby came in March 95 when he retired. Wonder if they have any around here? (Rapid City) Would be something to do during winter taht looks like it would be fun.0 -

When you said out on the ice
I thought you meant that you were an ice skater. I am one. From the picture it looks like you do this in your shoes or maybe boots. None the less I know it has got to be some fun. I always said that if you fall on the ice, your owie gets immediately iced. Because of the timing of my treatment I did not miss a season of ice skating. Lucky me.0 -
Always Good
It always is good when any of us can resume activities we were doing before we had to take time off. It makes it seem that life is beginning to return to normal.0 -
There is curling in Rapid City, SD!Rague said:Thanks! I would BUT

When we are sweeping, we have rubber gripper soles on both our feet to give us stability on the ice. However, for throwing, I remove the rubber gripper on my left shoe, to reveal a Teflon sole! I push out with my right foot, resting and sliding on my left (Teflon) foot, and the momentum pushes both me and the stone out. I then release the stone with a twist to make it turn in the requested direction. There is a captain ("Skip") at the other end of the ice who has determined what type of stone (hard, light) I should throw, how I should aim it, and how I should make it curl.
We all (4 of us) rotate through the positions, each throwing our 2 stones opposite our "opposites" on the other team. Then we sweep for the other 3 people on our team. The Skip doesn't sweep with the rest of us, tho she throws her 2 stones, while one of the others on the team (the "Vice") stands at the far end telling the skip what to do.
It's fun and lots of strategy!
I missed one season of curling during my treatment for appendix cancer. Oxaliplatin in my chemo makes you incredibly cold sensitive - can't breathe cool air or drink cold beverages. Curling was out.0 -

When I read "on the ice" - I thought she'd be doing ice fishing. She kayaks so my first thought went to water/fishing.0 -
