    Zolpidem Tartrate is generic Ambien
Ambien always gives me a good nights sleep. However, watch out for the amnesia. I did things on Ambien that I had no idea about, including conversations with my daughter and husband, getting up, ordering a Kindle for my daughter, and, umm, making love 9yes, with my husband), and not having a clue. He was shocked when I looked at him and asked if we'd "done anything last night." He thought I was teasing, and I told him that I truly had no recall.

I still use Ambien on occasion, particularly recently as I've gone through all of my stuff, but always tell him when I'm using it. I didn't use it the nights before my recent surgeries, because I knew I couldn't guarantee that I wouldn't eat after midnight.

All this being said, happy daughter with her Kindle (I was going to get one for her anyway - found out when I ordered her a second one, not knowing I'd ordered the first!) My husband knows if I use it to tell me if I had a good time the night before, and yes, I will awaken well-rested. However, I do try to avoid it.

    As Alice said zolpidem
As Alice said zolpidem tartrate is Ambien. It comes in different strengths.

When I was on Taxol, I could not sleep at all and my Chemo Dr gave me one of the 'popular' sleeping pills - it was horrible! I never have nightmares but on it I had horrendous ones that I could not put to anything I've gone through in my life and it only kept me asleep for about 3 - 4 hours. Talked to my PA about it and she changed me to the lowest dosage (she's been my PC for 16 years so she knows me quite well) of Ambien and it worked great.

Yes there can be problems with sleeping meds - they can become adictive. BUT can be very necessary to get the rest we all need during chemo for the health of our bodies. I still take an Ambien almost 3 yrs after I needed it because I will occasionall have a night that I can't get to sleep, perhaps once a month or every 2 or 3 months.

    I take Lunesta
I take it every night. It goes through the kidney instead of the liver. For some reason I just didn't like ambien. I figure the lack of sleep is worse than taking the drug. Maybe when I retire, I'll go off of it. Then I can sleep on my own schedule.

    Whoops! Didn't catch the "9"
If I'd hit the shift key, would have been a "(" like it was supposed to.

But let's go with we made love 9 times, and I didn't know it!

Thanks for catching it and giving me a good laugh!

    Be careful - It's addicting
I take Ambien also. I took it every night for almost 2 years. I had to stop because it wasn't working well anymore. When I did try to stop I couldn't sleep for 2 days. I still take it be have cut down to 1/2 pill and only when absolutely needed. The last time I refilled my rx was in June and I'd still have some if my husband didn't take it once in a while too. Even now taking a 1/2 pill I still have trouble sleeping the next night without it. It works well just be careful, it is habit forming.

    Have you ever tried Melatonin?
A lot of people swear by it, and it is over the counter "vitamin" type thing. Something to consider, though after Ambien it may not be strong enough. Also, Bendadryl (the old original capsules) can really know you out too. I took those to sleep when I was on chemo.

I am up avg of every 2 hrs
I am up avg of every 2 hrs and sometimes more often. I have told ALL my Drs about this. THE only reponse I get is...OH you age (NOT tamoxifen etc). It has been since 2008 (last time I remember sleeping through the NIGHT) so now it is just my way of life..

I have not come out and asked for sleeping meds but NOT ONE has offered.

    Doctors will NOT....
OFFER meds for sleeping, pain or anxiety/depression. EVER. You have to request it. Don't wait for the doctor. Go in and request (demand) something to help you!
