Multiple Myeloma

the good news is
that they have finally uncovered the cause of the paraneoplastic syndrome you were talking about several weeks ago. While this diagnosis complicates things, it is a treatable cause of the many abnormalities you two have run into. Sorry things are so complicated. Hang in there, better times are coming. You just have to take the detour to get there.

Oh God Vivian so sorry
Oh God Vivian so sorry about this. You and your husband don't deserve this at all. Please keep us updated and in the mean time I am thinking and praying for you.

Viv....I'm so sorry you're having to face so many things
....is this new diagnosis in "addition" to HNC? Or are they changing the entire diagnosis to MM? This explains some of the kidney problems he's had...and now that they KNOW what is happening, they will be able to give him the treatment he needs...Many times in my life, what seems to be to worst possible thing to happen ends up being the BEST possible thing that could have happened. This may be a blessing in disguise...if they get the MM under control (and from what I've read, that is what they do)...he will start feeling better...and if he feels better, his fighting spirit will make a come back...when that happens you will feel better, too.
Putting you guys into my pocket, and sending positive thoughts that this will be one of those blessings in disguise.

Phrannie,
This is a second cancer. The chemo oncologist said she has never seen someone with head and neck cancer get this type of cancer. She asked the hematology oncologist if he had and he hadn't either. They are perplexed.0 -

latest news, we will be praying for you both.
I'm so sorry you've been handed yet another problem. I'm sure you will be getting the best of care and hopefully these two issues can be dealt with quickly and at the same time. Please know that I am going to be praying for you and David. At least now you know why David has been having such a hard time. Hopefully now things will get a bit easier now that you'll be on the right track.
Take good care,

BAD NEWS-GOOD NEWS
Vivian, I'm very sorry to hear about David's new complication, that's news that no one wants to hear. However, given the information that LTS, AKA Pat provided, it is also good news in terms of understanding what David has been going thru, and that it is treatable. So, keep on hangin in there, and movin forward.

Yes treatable but not curablePam M said:Of Course You're Depressed
Wow - sorry you guys are taking another hit like this. Asking for strength and determination for both of you.
When I started reading about multiple myeloma if found out that it is usually not curable. Also I started looking through the lab orders the doctor sent home for us to do today. She put as the reason plasma cell leukemia, which is really bad news if she is correct. I truly am devestated by all of this. Last night I heard my husband pray for mercy and for God to spare his life. It was very sad. According to our chemo doctor David's plasma cell levels have been rising quickly and that is why there is the urgency to start treatment. They are discussing whether David can handle two a day radiation to hasten radiation being complete. They are most likely going to not do the Cisplatin because they need him to be well enough for the chemotherapy he will undergo for the new cancer. My mind is going a hundred miles an hour and I am trying desparately to digest this new news.0 -

Vivian,
My dx is treatable but not cureable.....but you have to take a breath and keep moving ahead with this ! I have no words to relieve what you as the wife (caregiver) are enduring right now. Please know our prayers are with David, and if you need us we are here ! Please feel our hugs as you need them right now ! Katie0 -

Thank you Katie. I know there are so many very courageous people on this site. Some of which do not have curable cancers and my heart goes out to you. I just find myself wondering what I am going to do. David and I haven't been married long and our whole marriage has been plagued with bad news and disease. I love him so very much and will see him through this, but I don't know what expectations I can have now for our future. At this point I am guessing having a child is out for sure. I miss him so much as he is so physically distant from me and has been since the end of July. It hearts me to see him in pain and to see the tears in his eyes and him struggling to hang on to his faith. I am so in awe of how he is keeping his faith in God and believing he will be healed.0 -
You still have to stick with the one day at a time. Don't be afraid to get the facts from your doctors for this type of cancer. I'm not so sure I believe all of the sites. We were told if we wanted to research, to stick with anything that had " .org " after it...not " .com ".
Go to God with your fears. He will bring comfort. Never give up! NEVER STOP!

I am so sad that you have to go thru that. I feel every your word and think about you and David a lot. I'm so sad that you have to go thru this. But please, just don't give up, don't lose hope. Doctors these days are so smart and capable... They will do everything they can to help David. I know it is even worse knowing that you got married this year and instead of enjoying a honeymoon or having babies you have to go thru this ordeal. I pray for you a lot. I wish there could finally be a positiv turn! At least now they know what's wrong and I strongly hope and believe that he will win this strugle! You two sure deserve a chance to start living prosperous and happy life! And yes - give all your fears to God! All of them! Don't carry them alone! And come here to this site to vent out! I really think of you two a lot!

So sorry
Vivian,
My heart is breaking for you. The two of you have had to face so much. I do hope that since they have an answer he can get the treatment he needs and things will start to get better. David is very lucky to have such a wonderful caregiver. Please hang in there and talk to us whenever you need to.

Brave?
No one here considers himself/herself particularly courageous. We see the other people as brave. I think you would be surprised to find out how many of us think you are brave and a model caregiver. Remember, everyone is here to receive support, that especially includes me. We are all praying for your and David. Rick.0
