Hi all, just to let you all know that I finally go for my radical nephrectomy tomorrow (12th). Its been a long 4 months and I am still extremely anxious about the surgery, but have taken heart from what others have had to say on this forum. Thank you all for your support, it has been appreciated. I will post again when I am able, hopefully within 2 weeks. Once again, thank you

Mick

    Losing the thread!
Mick, good luck for the op in 2 days time.

But why did you start yet another new thread?! You started one called "New to Kidney cancer" in August, where you gave us some details. Now we're cluttered up with yet another pointless new thread and we have to search to find out what you told us before!

You really don't have much to worry about. You're going to be fine and will soon be back here to join us and pick up some tips on how to recover as quickly as possible.

    Wishing you well
Just wanted to wish you well for your upcoming surgery. It won't be so bad--you get to go to la-la-land while the surgeon does all the work. Afterwards you'll be sore, but you'll be armed with pain pills. What I have learned from many, many surgeries is don't skip on taking the pain pills in the days after surgery! That's when you're the most sore. Be sure to have some good movies on hand to watch to take your mind off your soreness--also good for some healthy distraction from worries before surgery.

Good luck and be sure to check in after surgery to let us know how you're doing.

    Wishing you well Mickf! I
Wishing you well Mickf! I know you will be just fine after the surgery and glad to have it over! I can understand the anxiety, which tells us you are normal. Try to walk as soon as you can and drink lots of water.

The reason Texas Wedge is so concerned about starting new threads is because we can lose valuable information on your previous post and then we have to try and back track so that we can be sure to give you information that will have real meaning to you. Not to worry though, with the nervs getting the best of you and being new on the board, you will learn quickly! ;) It took me a while also!

We all will be thinking about you and praying for a speedy recovery. So please, when you feel up to it, come back to this thread and give us the good news and share how well you did throughout your surgery. By this time tomorrow it will be all over with. Here's wishing you the best!!!

Sending my good wishes. . .
Mick - Hoping all is uphill from surgery on. I know the waiting has been tough, but it's here and you have loads of support coming from this Board. Will anxiously await your good news report after surgery. Godspeed.

    The long wait
    Mickf,

Your wait will be over in barely a day and you will be on your way to hopefully a complete recovery from the surgery alone. You should be able to sit up and enjot Thanksgiving dinner in a few short weeks. Take it easy and don't try and push yourself too much in the weeks following surgery. Soon you will even forget the initiation.

    the time is here
Mickf, just think, you'll be home having some r&r and enjoying the college hoop season, and football. You won't have to rake leaves, shovel snow or hang wallpaper. Good luck tomorrow.

    treat it like a job.....
Mickey: I remember the pointed words of my primary nurse when I had my radical neph. After a day of recovery she said: " This is not a hotel and you're not on vacation, you're here to work!" So just approach it like any other day at the office.. put in your time and hit your goals... The others here have heard this before but it's what I tell myself every day. You live 'till you die and you ain't dead yet. Go team!

    Post operation
Hi all, just to let you all know that I am now 6 days post op and recovering at home. Pain is under control, just got to have complete rest for 2 weeks. All went well and first indications are that it was a 4 cm tumour fully contained within the right kidney. removal went well. I will find out the full result in a few weeks at my next appointment. They have told me they will be checking that the bladder is all clear at the same time I am at this moment in time , stiff and sore but now I can wear my membership badge to this site with honour.

Well done Mick! Pity you had to join this Club but you're right - you can now wear your badge with honour and start to draw the membership benefits which include tips on how to recover well and how best to handle any issues that arise.

You can also serve as one of the latest examples of how it's all doable and that it's possible to get through it and back to enjoying life. May you continue to do just that throughout a long and happy lifetime.

    Attitude
Gordon, I find both what you have to say and the way you formulate it very appealing. Could I ask you to tell me/us a bit more about yourself, generally (not merely about your RCC experience)?

    Welcome to the Club
Good to hear all went well!!

Be sure to walk some every day. As tough as it may seem, walking will increase your endurance. That was probably the most difficult thing for me to do after surgery, but it was the most beneficial.

    Keep on truck'in
Only 4cm and contained - that's fantastic news! Congratulations. Don't you feel freed? Bill's right - walk, walk, walk! You won't want to, but it IS the best thing. You'll hoof it a bit farther each day, and soon enough you won't even remember the pain. Enjoy the day!

Great news, my new friend & 'club member'....

Your case sounds almost identical to mine, R-Kidney, 5.0cm, contained with the Kidney sac, etc. and I was up and around a few weeks later. Wishing you a great path report and a full recovery!!

did you have a full? Laproscopic or regular? Mine was regular.

I'll be curious to know if they took your surrounding Lymph Nodes or not. This was the only surprise to me when I received my path report. They left mine in. It was explained to me, something to do with the Urologist making a judgement call at the time of the surgery on what he sees at the time, etc,....whether the tumor looks contained, size, etc ??

Maybe someone else on the board knows this better than me. Thoughts?

    God Bless!!
