New delays

We were supposed to start chemo today, but the chemo inc thought David was not healthy enough yet. She has postponed his first treatment until next Thursday. He was supposed to do radiation today, but the machine had a glitch. After freaking out about wearing the mask, then they told him they would have to start tomorrow. Oh well we will eventually get started.

    Hang in there ...
Sorry for all the bumps .....docs know best ...

The mask wearing bit will get better each time he does it ....they talked to me a few times during my rads the first couple of day over the speaker bc I was soooo nervous (I don't like confined spaces AT ALL) ....

Keep us posted ...tell David we are thinking / praying for him and you.

    Like Tim said....trust the docs...
Waiting a little longer for him to get healthier is a good thing for chemo...I went thru a radiation machine glitch for 3 days once...it was the best thing to happen to me at the time...

Nobody likes the mask, that's a fact. I don't don't have any claustraphobia, but the mask almost had me wondering if I wasn't developing it fast. Then I just got used to the procedure...knew it was only 15 minutes out of 24 hours, and knew it was curing me...

I am truly sorry for all the bumps you two seem to face...I know that feeling of just wanting to get the show on the road.

    Sorry
Well, there is one small bright point: The first treatment week (for radiation) is not too bad. Well, the mask may be hard to get used to. But the neck burns and difficulty swallowing come later, much later. And they come on slowly. I know this is not much of a good thing. But at least, David will come out of radiation treatment very much like he went in. You won't even be able to tell he had the treatment. Rick.

You will be glad David had
You will be glad David had to wait to get chemo until he is stronger. We just had 2nd Cisplatin last Thursday and up until then John was doing really well. Not since, though. He has been so sick since then that he hasn't really had the energy to talk, and with nausea it just makes it worse. And, John is normally a talker so I know he is sick. The last few days have not been good.

As far as radiation, John really didn't see much from the radiation for the first couple of weeks. Now neck is tight, stiff and burnt.

So, hope David is gaining some strength and weight and soon you be on the road to recovery.

    Waiting is the hardest part!
I know how hard it is when you already don't feel ok and then they put you on hold and postpone the start. But it is better that David starts to feel better and that you start with treatment later. Just hang in there, time will pass very fast and try to use this time until the start for recovery. You're in my thoughts!

    Healthy.....
You need him healthy as they can possibly get him before tx. It can be a rough road, as we've spoken about. It will happen soon enough...hang in there.

    Aloe Vera Gel

    Joan.....

Have you tried Aloe Vera Gel (pure/no alcohol)? We are using that constantly and gooping it on. Many on here had recommended it. It is very, very helpful. His neck is a little dry looking sometimes, but more red at this point (we are in the middle of week 5 of 7). A few spots look like they want to peel. But, this stuff works..at least for now.

I used Aloe Vera gel consistantly for daytime use....
and Calendula cream (the kind for babies) for nights....I didn't like greasy for daytime wear. I really had pretty good luck, with only one week where the skin on my neck thought about cracking. Calendula was suggested by the Rad doc.
