You may want to ask your doctor about Vitamin E for hot flashesAttygirl said:Yay, Denise!
Time really does fly...
I just hit my 3-year Tamoxifeniversary. (!) And I'm thankful that the only major side effect for me has been hot flashes.
Vitamin E doesn't help everybody with hot flashes, but it's helpful for some, and definitely makes them more bearable for me. I checked with both my oncologist and gynecologist first -- with their blessings, I take 400 IU (just the regular ol' generic drugstore Vitamin E pills), morning and night. I really notice my hot flashes getting much worse if I stop taking it, so plan to take it for my full 5 glorious Tamoxiyears. (!)
Definitely worth asking your doctor about giving it a try!

Thanks so much. Helpful once again! I will look into that vitamin E. I had a vicious hot flash tonight that soaked through my shirt!
Glad to hear you found some relief!0 -

I am newly diagnosed (Only 45 days ago). I know I will eventually have to be on the drug, and know there is a lot of research to do on it.0 -

I am so sorry to hear about your diagnosis. But I am so glad you found us here.
I'm assuming you say that you know you will eventually be on it because your doctors have mentioned it to you as part of your treatment. I believe it was presented to me pretty early on as well. But it didn't become a definite until I knew that my tumor was estrogen receptive. Tamoxifen is only used for tumors that feed off of estrogen. Have you been told that yours is "ER+" yet?
There is so much to learn and research. I was particularly concerned about the effects of radiation and Tamoxifen. Thankfully, there are tons of resources out there. This network is a wonderful resource, filled with some very knowledgable people. But best of all, this network is a warm, safe place to bring your fears, concerns, and worries...and your celebrations. And trust, there will be reasons to celebrate on this trip.
Stay in touch...we will be with you every step of the way!
Hugs to you.0 -

Why only 2.5 years? I thought everyone took it for 5 years.
Hugs, Debby
I have no idea why 2.5 years for that. I do know the plan is to switch to another drug, but I forget what that is.0 -
Atta Girl, AttyGirl :-). So
Atta Girl, AttyGirl :-). So proud of you. There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that tamoxifen saved my life. When I was diagnosed, way back in 1987 with Stage 3, my prognosis stank. Tamoxifen was considered "experimental" by many for premenopausal women back then It made sense to me and my oncologist, so I went for it and took it 7 years (back then we didn't know how long that I should take it).
Obviously, I am still here 25 years later. My mantra is to be as compliant as you possibly can. Sooo happy that you are doing this :-).0 -
This is very encouraging...CypressCynthia said:Atta Girl, AttyGirl :-). So
