Volcanp closures

in Breast Cancer #1
Anyone out there have their mastectomies closed "volcano" style? I have not found any info on it and after nearly 8 weeks post surgery I'm still not healed. Just curioust about others

    what in the world is that,
    what in the world is that, doesn't even sound like something you'd want done, its been 8 wks since my surgery and my surgeon used that surgical glue, which i hated and have since ruptured my suture line, whatever happened to good ole sutures. please tell me what your suture lines look like and how you are healing, if anyone knows anything it will be here, rest assured, God bless you and keep in touch.

    Thanks. There is probably some fancy technical term but my PS calls it a volcano. I have a horizontal incision that starts at my arm pits and basically reaches the center of what is left of the breasts, then there is basically a running circular stitch that is gathered and pulled tight. I had no idea what it was until I first saw it. He says once I am all done I will look very natural. All I know right now is that it's taking forever to heal and on the left side is a big gaping circle. Can't find any info anywhere on this. Thanks for your interest and I hope your healing process is going well both physically and emotionally.

    well, in theory it sounds like a good idea, doesn't seem like its working out in the practical world, any instructions on how to care for the hole? did you have stretch marks on your breast prior, i did now i look like i've been ruffled!!! someday im sure they will flatten out but really ruffles!!!so much of what we go through we never know about until your in it, the surgeons certainly don't say, oh by the way your breast will look ruffled or pleated because of your stretch marks, a little warning couldn't have hurt, but your brain is so scrambled at the point you wouldn't have heard it anyway, but its always interesting and surprise to see what each brings us!!!

    I guess that the PS plans to reconstruct a nipple to fit in the center. How crazy does that sound? I had a lot of extra skin because about 7 years ago I lost around 80 pounds. That may be the reason he closed the way he did. Right now I'm having issues with swelling and see thePS tomorrow , I'm hoping he will remove some of the built up fluid. I haven't even had my first fill yet and look like I'm nearly done. It's funny how so many of us are on the same journey but different paths. I've found that no story is the same. Maybe that's why we don't everseem prepared for what is next.
