OT - dogs running loose killed my cat
All caught on my security video. It is a horrible thing to see and I so want to say something to the dog owners who just let their stupid dogs run wild. But what?
What can I say, they won't care. Can I call animal control? What would they do? My poor Skinny Tail baby, his fur was all wet and bloody. And I can't even find his brother anywhere. I walked all over the neighborhood looking for him. I can't get the image out of my head that he's hurt and likely lay dying somewhere.
These cats almost always stayed in the yard believe it or not. To be attacked in their own yard is just over the top.
My poor fur babies.

Contact your local Police/Sherrif/Animal Control ASAP
Let them deal with the owner(s). Different states, counties and cities have different laws and thus what they can (or will) d0.
Personally - I'd be ready to do a 'Triple S' (Shoot - Shovel - SHHH!) on the dogs when they return. Wouldn't be the first time I did. I have no patience with pebbbles who let their dogs run loose.
My thoughts and prayers are with you and your poor Babies!

That is horrible! If you have it on camera, and know who owns the dogs, please report it to your local police department. It is criminal to allow your dogs to run free and wreak havoc.
Here's hoping that the other cat will be found safe and sound.
Thank you for your kind words. I live in an unincorpoorated area. I called animal control and they told me that if I catch the dogs - only then - will they come out. That's not saying they will than take them away, oh no. They will take them away (after I first catch them) only if they can get that wire noose pole around the dogs neck, cause that's the only way they feel safe enough to lift the dog into their truck.
I doubt the sheriff would even bother to come out to take a report.

OHHHHHHH I AM SO MAD FOR
OHHHHHHH I AM SO MAD FOR YOU!!! That is total BS that you have to catch not 1, not 2 but 3 vicious dogs!!! You are suppose to put yourself at risk for harm? I assume you do not have the necessary equipment nor training for this!!
Like I told Vicki Sam, those dogs need to be put down!! They viciously killed your cat. What if the little pack enters a yard with a toddler and attacks?
I would write a letter to the editor of the local newspaper regarding the authorities ill advised recommendations. Are they wanting a law suit?
I would write exactly what they told you, the possible horrible outcome of you trying to catch three animals and holding them somewhere and wait for them? I would also write about what I said about a young toddler in the yard and they come in. Also put in you have it on tape and that they invaded your yard and WENT ON YOUR PORCH.
These dogs are a menace. I would also contact your mayor or city administrator explaining the absurdity of what you were told and the dangers of those dogs. They are not normal dogs. They should be put to sleep.
I would also contact your local tv station. This should be made aware to the public!!
I am soo sooo sorry about your cat!!! What a horrible thing.
What is it with these irresponsible pet owners??
My dog is not dog friendly so I take extra precautions. A couple weeks ago, our new neighbors, two houses down, decided to walk their dogs past our house. My dog was properly chained up. I have it set up so she can not go further than three feet from the curb. We have no sidewalks, but there is a wide space marked off for walking. They were walking their dogs on OUR property. My dog went running after them and they DIDN'T bother to quickly pull their dogs off OUR property. It was like they expected me to come running from the garage to get my dog. There is a wide enough space that they didn't need to be on our yard, especailly with my dog out there. Had my dog NOT been outside, I would have not minded them on our yard. But they were just rude, egotistical, idiots. Sorry for the rant here.
Again, I am so sorry for the trauma you and your cat have suffered at the hands of irresponsible pet owners and the shoddy treatment by the authorities makes it worse.
I give you a lot of credit for staying calm as it appears. I would be letting the news, the mayor, the city council, and the police/sheriffs dept. Is there a leash law in your city? If there is, right there they should be stepping in.
What a mess for you. I am truly saddened.0 -

About midnight, and after calling him for about an hour straight he finally ran up. He didn't seem to be physically hurt but he is just so traumatized that he could barely eat. He'd take a bite and look furtively around. He didn't meow even once, and he's just about one of the most 'talkative' cats I've ever seen.
I tried to get him to stay inside but he seemed to feel more comfortable outside. They're outside cats primarily because whenever the cats get to close to me my throat swells up and my nose gets stuffed up and I can barely breathe. I must be allergic or something?
This morning, he was 'stuck' on the roof but at least he talking today.
I think for now I'll concentrate on getting him, Fat Tail, through this as best I can.
Skinny Tail, Fat Tail - they think they're Native American Indians...you know, like Running Bear?!!
But, I'll not let it go.
Thank you all for your kind words.0 -

You should have reported your rabbits being killed so there would be a record on the dog when it attacks other animals or people. It usually takes a record of viciousness to get an animal put down unless it kills or horribly injures. In all the states I've lived in the dog owner would be legally liabel for 3 -5 times the cost of the rabbits as they are officially 'livestock' even when they are just spoiled pets like my 8 y/o Holland Lop.
It is amazing to me how many won't report attacks. Several years ago, I was attacked by a momma Rotty, 2 of her close to grown pups and her current litter not far from my house. I was riding my bike over to see Gdaughter when they came charging up. Hopped off bike and froze. They came up and were growling and snarling but didn't break skin. A lady on the other side of the street wwalked out of her house and they took off after her - she got in her house before they got to her which gave me time to head home to call the police. While talking to Dispatch I saw the dogs run onto the elementary school across the street. I think they must have sent every cop in the townm to the area and the dogs were caught (I think one was shot as I heard a discharge). The dogs never came back and the people moved away shortly. In talking with an Officer later he told me that they knew these dogs were a danger but no one would ever report them as they were afraid of what the owners might do it did. I was stopped a couple of times by people in the area who told me basically the same thing - they feared the owners more than the dogs though the dogs made it impossible to be out in their yards.
If any of you or your loved ones (2 legged and 4) are attacked - make a report. You are actually protecting yourself but also the offending dog and it's owners. Once animals lose respect of others (becomes vicious) - it's lost forever unless there is something done to be sure the behavior is limited. The owner is not going to be happy about being reported but better they are unhappy then than to ignore the danger they are harboring until someone is serious harmed and they are facing major prosecution for what they allowed their dog to do.
OK I'll get off my soap box.
I feel sure that if Hubby's B&T CoonHound or my Corgi were allowed to run wild they would terrorise anything (animal wise) that moved - what they are bred for. They are not given the opportunity to do so.

That's fantastic that he's home. Hopefully the dogs do not come back to finish the 'deed' and if they do that he can make it onto the roof in time.

Oh my gosh, how truly terrible. I blame the owners far more than the actual animal who did the killing. If that makes much sense..because it seems that any and all dogs like to chase but if that dog was kept in its yard then these things wouldn't happen nearly so much or so it seems to me. Then also, some dogs are just ferocious and further enhcanced by their idiot owners.
Your poor fur baby chinchilla, they due have some serious antics sometimes.

So sorry. Non of us are
So sorry. Non of us are perfect and our pets can escape but this is disgusting. If my dog did this I would have to let it go, once blood has been tasted they are dangerous in my opinion and should not live in a neighbourhood with families and their pets. Also more than one equals a pack and they change personality in a pack. For you to view this is awful. It would break my heart. My little Dachshund recently passed with cancer and that was bad enough. What did the owners say?????? I would have been so ashamed.0 -
Ref: my rabbits above...we didnt' tell neighbor (not close close by) their dog killed our rabbits-mainly to your comment above..ON occassion my dog(s) dart away.RozHopkins said:So sorry. Non of us are
