I go back to work tonight at midnight.....
I'm so used to sleeping at night, and being up during the day....I hope it doesn't take me as long to adjust as it did the first time I started this job. Having lots of anxiety about that part of things.
Ah..but I am back in the mainstream now....back to "normal"....I"m sure after 4 nights it will feel like I never left.

Hi Ho Hi Ho
its off to work I go.... wow seems like just yesterday we took a new job fighting the beast and now thats done its back to our real job. You will do fine P, Im sure you will feel fatiged but as your stamina builds you should be good as new. Right or wrong I went ahead and retired after 37 years with the Govt when I was dx. Diane still works so kinda quiet around the house during the day. I requested a volunteer job at our local hospital and I go in on Friday for orientation. I guess if I get the gig, I will be running things around the hospital showing people where to go etc. since I would use my wheelchair should get good exercise for the arms, so I to will be testing my stamina, although 4 hours a day is not bad its yet to be determined but I believe she said I could do up to 12 hours a week, will see. So yes its time to put the beast and all its garbage behind us and get on with life. PS. In one of your previous post you said if it did not work out you may just retire, not a bad idea, you can always start enjoying retired life just a little sooner than expected. Good luck no matter what you decide.0 -
I'm keeping that retirement thing in the back of my head...ditto1 said:Hi Ho Hi Ho

for sure. They also have it set up at my work place, that if I work 2 weeks, and find I'm too exhausted, with a note from my Dr. I can go back on short term disability...so it's feasable that if the two weeks ehausts me too much, I can get a note and take another month or so off.
My job is one that is pretty weather dependent...and of course today we have high wind warnings, and they already have nearly 4000 people out of power...not at all how I wanted to the first to be....LOL. I was hoping for a nice quiet night, where I could learn the programs, practice at them...and kind "ease in"....not just get dropped off into a war zone.
BTW...dropped into the Oncologist's office yesterday to weigh in...still have to gain 2 more pounds before they'll yank this tube...even tho I haven't used it in a month, and have no plans to use it in the future...now THAT ain't fair...LOL.

next time wear steel toed safety boots in and I bet you get the tube yanked. I too was worried when I returned to work with the understanding that it would be hit & miss as to how I felt. It was so liberating and such a feeling of normalcy that I never looked back. But then again, I wasn't on midnight shift either. I think I slept quite a bit when I got home that first week, next thing I knew, I was stopping at the mall on my way home :-)Good luck!0 -

Why didn't I think of that!! I just tried them on the other night, and they are SO HEAVY on my feet after a summer of light shoes. Next time in, I'm wearing them.

Great News
I think I would like to work once again. Also a little extra cash wouldn't hurt. Was laid off due to the economy in 2008. Only worked as a census taker since. Today, my health situation is unpredictable. Some days I can speak, others, I can't. Some days I get by Okay; others, I have extending coughing fits.
So you can see that I'm jealous of your shot at working again. Hope you pull it off. But if you do have a setback, rest, and take another shot at a job when you're ready.
Best of luck. Rick.0 -

My Gastro Doc always made me take off my shoes before the big weigh-in! He was looking for those last few pounds SHOELESS! He caught me, filling my boots with small rocks.

good luck to you. I really hope your employer and co-workers understand all you have been through. The trx is so tough. But, maybe getting back into your routine will be good. Back to the old normal kind of...
Hope you get the feeding tube out.0 -
I know how you feel, excited
I know how you feel, excited and anxious all at once. Wishing you the best as you return to work. I am mid way thru my third week back to work. It has been tiring but then again it is good to return to more of my "normal". I go to bed a lot earlier than I used to and my bosses have let me kind of ease back in, giving me someone to help me most days. Of course I had 16 weeks of things that had piled up while I was gone to catch up on! JUst make sure you don't over do and get plenty of rest, and eat so you can get rid of that tube. The boots sounds like a good idea!0 -

I am saying a little prayer that you have a pleasant first night back to work. You have come so far and it's wonderful to hear you are getting nearer to being normal again.0 -

Hi Phrannie! Good luck with your job! It is surprising how time passes by! It seems like just yesterday we were talking about mugard and mouth sores! I have been working few weeks now and yes it almost feels like i never left! Stamina does come back faster than we think. My biggest challane is to make sure to keep up with good nutrition, trying different ways to adujust.
btw, are you able to eat mexican food now? I know you love it as much as i do. I still cannot eat it.

this is a huge accomplishment just going to work for the first time, funny but in some ways it makes you feel somewhat complete!
hope you do better than i did, it was certainly a struggle

Thought of you last night as I climbed under the covers about 10. Wishing you well along with that good feeling of doing something "normal". I thought back to the little things that made me feel so good, raising my arm high enough to wash my own hair, being able to walk down the basement steps and do my own laundry, driving, coming back to work, shopping.....who would have thought those things could bring so much joy!0 -
You go girl
I remember being so tired at the end of the day. I needed on day of the weekend to just rest. I hope your schedule gives you some down time. Don't forget water, yogurt, easy food that is handy to get at.
BTW, I will understand if you do not post too soon!0 -
GOOD FOR YOU
Theres nothing more rewarding than being ale to return to some normalcy. Even with this being my second time having to do battle, it makes me feel good that I am working 40 plus hours and working out some, ut not like I had been before my second recurrance.
You will survive!!!
Best
