Woke up to semi heavy bleeding

Get it checked
After biopsies bleeding is common (they take a bite out of teh tumour so its going to bleed) but heavier bleeding needs checking. Tumours are very vascular (lots of blood vessels hence them growing faster than normal tissue) si can bleed alot even without the trauma of a biopsy. As for teh PAP smear- the bleeding from that will be vaginal only. If the bleeing is rectal it isn't the PAP.
Get it checked.

I thought maybe because my tumor is on the rectal wall right behind the vaginal wall it could cause it. My doctor warned me that they are very thin walls and he's done a lot to the rectal wall so I stand a chance of a problem with the vaginal wall. I haven't looked up the basics of a fistula, figured I would only when I had to. Not too worried, it's going to be what it will be. The bleeding is much more than it's ever been so this definitely warrants a day off from work and a doctor visit.0 -
Doctor
So glad that you are going to the doctor as the heavy bleeding is nothing to take lightly and yes it could be a fissure which they bleed a lot. Best that you get things checked out now and still be able to get your second opinion. Mine was a rectal tumor too and it bleed and that's how it was discovered but we still thought it was hemrhoids. Of course, most of us do and they aren't. You have a lot to look forward to with that new precious grandbaby of your coming due. Think towards the positive while you are dealing with all this scary and uncertainty. We will help you get through all of it. Keep us informed as to what the doctors say.

Sounds scarey, throughout this whole ordeal I've never had bleeding, the only one time I thought I did scared the heck out of me but I had juiced a couple beets the night before and it was discolouring my morning poop, disappeared completely my next poop without beet juice. But, when I saw that red in the toilet bowl I freaked. Keep us posted as to what's going on.0 -

Smokey I did that once years ago with watermelon and was like what the heck! To think I really unknowingly did have cancer. I had bleeding to begin with which is why I went in to begin with so not so much scary as ahhhhh crap, not again. I'm also having pain now. Doc said heavy bleeding should have stopped with first surgery so if I have it, I should call. He said he's surprised I haven't had pain so I guess the pain is now starting. I called this morning, just waiting for him to call me once he's out of surgery.0 -

I did the hemmerhoids thing for years with minimal spotting. Suddenly it got heavy. Now I've told people, go in, don't be afraid of an easy test, the consequences of waiting are a lot worse, better to find out it's just hemmerhoids. Amazingly not scared anymore. Just ahhh crapping a whole lot! I'm still getting over the last poking and prodding I had=)0 -

I had a fistula after my ileostomy take down. But our bodies being as wonderful as they are, the fistula healed itself from th inside out.
Now I am NED for the last 18 months. Take hope, you too can do it. Hugs along the way.0 -

Ahh Now I need to look up fistula in detail because I thought it meant a tear in the rectal and vaginal wall and well you don't qualify for that! I guess it's just a hole in a wall. Congratulations on being NED, that's fantastic! The doctor is going to give me an ileostomy (I thought that was the same as colostomy, I had to look that up when I got home after our meeting the other day) so I'll be hitting you up for questions this summer. I think I'll write a song about healing from the inside out. I like that. Wanna hear it, here it go (that's a line from a comedy show from the 80s).0 -

The ileostomy is when they bring you illium( small intestine) out through your stomach to give your Colon a rest. So you have a stoma with a bag for a while. An illeostomy takedown or reversal is when they re attach the small intestine back to the colon. Then no more bags and pooping as before any of this. Don't be afraid, many of us have been though this..It's not real easy ,but doable. More HUGS.0 -

You are right...and you are right...lol
A fistula can develop at the shared rectal and vaginal wall...how do I know? I had one.
A fistual can develop in other places too.
You may want to check out John23's page for some initial info about ileostomy...he has been kind enough to share his experiences and insights.
As best as I know there are several differences between a ilio and a colostomy:
most colostomies are on the left side and ilio's on the right because of where in the intestines they cut...those with ilio's have to be more aware of dehydration as there is less absorption that early in the line...the output from an ilio is not as formed because of the greater amount of liquid at that point.
Did your doctor refer you to an Ostomy Nurse so that best placement for stoma can be marked before surgery? If not, please ask for one. Even a temp stoma can be a real pain if not best located.
When is your surgery scheduled?
Ask any you have questions about it and we will try to give you best answers as we know them.

Surgery at local hospital is scheduled for June 19. Second opinion is scheduled for June 18. That won't work so I'm hoping a cancellation comes up for the second opinion and I'll fill it. Otherwise I have to push back the surgery. I have to have it done before July 3 to continue my disability without penalty from the last one (they allow 90 days for a continuance). I just had a funny thought for this summer when I visit others . . can I take your jacket and bag? ummmm NO THANKS. lol I don't know why these things pop into my head. Yes to the ostomy nurse. I will have a meeting with her before the surgery and I will be shown how to clean and care for the area while in the hospital. Apparently I will also have a visiting nurse at home.0 -
Thanks Smokey! I got sosmokeyjoe said:I'm on here checking to see
I'm on here checking to see if you made it to doctor to see what's/where this bleeding is coming from???
Thanks Smokey! I got so relaxed once he told me it's just the original cancer growth bleeding again that I forgot to say that last night. He said bleeding is fine as long as it is a pattern for a growth. A growth that's never bleed before should be alarming. A growth that bleed in the first place is just following a pattern.0 -
Can we talk about Rectal-Vaginal Fistula?Lovekitties said:Dear Helen

Ms Marie (who loves Kitties :-)
I had colon resect surgery Nov 2010 (stage 1, no chemo or radiation necessary... thanks be to God!). My tumor was located right at the rectum, thus my rectum and about a ft. of colon was removed. The temporary ielo was reversed Jan 2011, but had to bring it back up approx. 3 weeks later because I developed a rectal-vaginal fistula. Several different repairs have been done... stitches and mesh to name a couple. Here I am 20 months later with a fistula that is still not completely closed. How long did it take yours to heal? Any insight you can share would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks so much!
