Advice needed

Hi ladies. Haven't posted for awhile. I am currently taking avastin every two weeks. My platelets always seem to be an issue, so onc is trying oral meds plus the avastin. I tried cytoxin first , but ca125 just kept rising. It was back up to 2500 the first of September. Started taking etoposide then . You take for 14 days and off 14 days. Ca 125 dropped 500pts , so last check it was 2000. Having blood checked tomorrow. I started on another round of etoposide on 10/3. My nausea is so much worse this time. I am taking zofran 2-3 x daily, but it doesn't seem to be working as well. I have a Dr's appt. on Thursday, and another avastin tx. I know chemo tends to build up over time. This etoposide must really be some meds. Anyone else ever taken this med ? Any advice would be wonderful. It also makes so tired. Thanks...prayers for all of us.. Jackie

    Hi Jackie
I don't have any personal experience with the meds you are taking but I am so sorry you are feeling nauseated and are so tired. I'm glad your CA 125 is coming down but I wish you didn't have to suffer the side effects. I'm hoping and praying that your doctor comes up with something that will help to at least minimize the nausea.

    Take care,

    Kelly

    Hi Jackie
I'm so sorry to hear that you're dealing with so many side effects. I haven't been on this regiment, but there are other meds for nausea that work better for me than zofran. Might be worth mentioning at your Dr's appt. I hope you get more good news this week.

    Ginger for nausea
I've heard lots of good things about ginger enhancing the anti-nausea drugs efficacy; 1 capsule twice a day, or sip ginger tea and/or nibble on ginger snaps. I wish I'd known this when I was on chemo.

There are some published articles in reputable journals regarding ginger as an adjunct treatment for nausea. It can't hurt.

    Hope you're feeling better,
    Alice

    Have they tried you on
Have they tried you on Comprozine for nausea? The gave me that and the Zolfram to use in conjunction with each other. Thankfully, I never had any nausea and still have most of both perscriptions from the original order. I have found(for me, quite by mistake) that banana popcyles(the clear, unmilky ones) were really great on a too warm stomach. Can't hurt! Best, debrajo
