Taste Buds Coming On-Line
I went to a huge buffet today and I am here to report some success. I had a large plate of main courses which included lasagna, mac-n-cheese, pepperoni pizza, shrimp, scallops, white fish, roast beef, stir fry, fried rice, pot stickers, spicy chicken, mashed potatoes, scalloped potatoes, carrots, and corn. I then had a large plate filled with salads which included cantaloupe, honey due, pineapple, fruit salad, waldorf salad, chocolate pudding, tapioca pudding, artichoke salad and carrot salad. Finally I had a large plate with desserts which included strawberry rhubarb pie, apple crisp, chocolate cover cream puff, pumpkin spice cake and apple spice cake.
I tried everything listed and the winners were pepperoni pizza, fruit salad and chocolate cover cream puff. I still drank 2 smoothies today, but can say their days are numbered (with continued luck)
Let’s do lunch sometime,
Matt

Well Matt.....you must realize how envious I am of your
buffet extravaganza today ....I would have done precisely what you did....taste everything that was there looking for a winner!! Now I am surprised that pepperoni pizza on that list (pepperoni being so spicy)....how were the pot stickers?? I miss them (I miss all oriental food bad!!!)....
Anytime you want to do lunch, let me know...I'll be right there in the buffet line with ya.

Taste bud DO wake up!
Matt;
I read your menu list and was so jealous! I too have had my taste buds recover but the saliva is almost non existent, so a lot of food has taste, but is barely edible without adding water.
I've found that the trick is adding the right amount to what you're eating. Small sip before you take a bite so there is some moisture in your mouth, start to chew and if needed another small sip. Too much and the chewing experience and taste gets diluted too much and the feel of what you're eating gets gross!
I've been able to eat sandwiches, though it is easier if I microwave them and soften the bread or roll, surprisingly Betty Crocker Au Gratin potatoes work very well too taste wise.
I'm looking forward to the time when I can walk into a buffet (my favorite is the breakfast buffet at Disney's Boma restaurant in the Animal Kingdom Lodge) and help myself to the amazing array of tastes.
Congrats on getting them back!

brag, brag, brag. (just kidding of course).
Great news Matt, I still like that meal you said you had at your dads house some time back...not sure when, but the description of that meal sounded like good 'ol home cooking.

P51,
I could not try “everything” (too much). Pot stickers, not so good, pizza great crust, spicy (I like spicy). This is a work in progress.

Peter,
I drank 2 glasses of water and 3 cups of coffee (little sips at a time). The taste buds are not back, but they are much better than 2 months ago (I would not even attempted a buffet 2 months ago)

really need to know. You would always give it a score. Either way thats great news Matt, you keep my wife and I laughing when reading many of your responses and thats uplifting. Knowing you have been waiting for the day more foods would be enjoyed glad your buffet trip gave you that. Just when I was enjoying a variety of foods Thrush made a comeback so back to Boost for now. But I did try a McDonald cheeseburger last week, had to take the top bun off and ate 3/4 of it. Not bad, Maybe someday I will try to sit up a Cyber Picnic where we can all have a day to eat and share with others.0 -

yeah on the eating...I try different things all the time , most of the old favorites are back or semi-back, beef still has an odd taste, was never much of a beef eater but would like to taste a good good grilled steak or burger just once again.

Linda,
Steak and burgers are my favorite. My wife and I use to travel around (tasting around) looking for the best burgers and we found a few.

John,
I thought specifically of you when I plated up the white fish, it was just ok, but it wasn’t prepared by your loving hands.

my mouth was still a little tender for that much garlic, but you're further out than me...you should make it, it is SO SO good!! I took my last pound of shrimp yesterday and made an Alfredo sauce and fetticine....less garlic, lots of cheese...that didn't sting my mouth too bad at all....
Thinking of homemade cream of mushroom soup for tonight ....that ought to slide down easy, don't ya think?

Oh that is too funny. When I was a single (I did not get married till I was 34 years old, so I was single a loooong time) and before I learned to cook, I would take a pound of hamburger meat and a can of condensed mushroom soup and that would be my meal along with a bowl of ice cream and a large coke....
..of course for those on this forum who would never dream to eat this way I know I just made their hearts stop...but boy I sure do eat better now....
..and I might add that when I got married 15 years ago to my wife that was the best thing I ever did for my diet (unknowingly of course)..
Best,
Tim0
