A different kind of good news

Hopeful news, anyway. It's now been 2 years since I completed chemo and still my hair still doesn't cover my head. It still looks just like the photo on my Expressions page 1 year ago. I've been to the dermatologist, had all kinds of tests done, and nothing. Bottom line, I had hair 2 1/2 years ago and now I don't have enough. We all agree it's either permanent hair loss from Taxotere and/or loss from Arimidex or loss of ovaries or ageing or all of the above. Bottom line - the culprit is breast cancer treatments and it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that out.

Anyway, back to the good news. Since mid June I have been using Rogaine. Extra strength, Men's Rogaine, on the advice of a dermatologist. Basically she said I could give it a try. It would either work or it wouldn't and it would either work enough to make a difference or not enough.

Soooo, 3 months later I'm now noticing a short hair here and there. Nothing like a lawn, but nonetheless, it's hair that's shorter than the rest of my hairs, so it's new growth. So I will continue using Rogaine because maybe, just maybe, this is the start of something good!

I did not have a mastectomy, but this loss has done so much to my lack of feeling feminine or attractive and it must be similar to those of you who have had mastectomies. Damn this beast to hell!

    Suzanne,
Strange, but your hair problem has been on my mind lately and I wanted to ask about how you were doing. It sounds like the Rogaine is working. I hope it works like fertilizer on a lawn in the spring!!! I am hoping to hear that your hair starts to come in thick and lovely just like you would want, and quickly. Its important, too, to feel your best.

    Praying for this too!

    Suzanne ...
I say .. go for it!!! Try anything to get us breast cancer gals back to our
'normal' prior to hearing those dreaded words 'you have breast cancer' .. it's
the least that we deserve after all we been thru, right?

I applaud you, and pray for continued success.

Strength, Courage and HOPE for a Cure.
