in Ovarian Cancer #1
I found this site accidently & so glad I did. My daughter was diagnosed with ovarian cancer, papillary serous adenocarcinoma, stage 2C on May 27,2012. Everything happened so fast: first abdominal pain, bloating. Went to ER then ultra sound that showed a mass on her left overly. This was followed by surgical debunking, total hyst,removal of overies & fallopian tubes. The tumor migrated to right Fallopian tube.
Three weeks later she started her chemo, IP cisplatinum & taxol. Had a bad reaction immediately with Taxol, so then went to 2nd line doxitxol.
Ca125 went from 650 to 39 post surgery. Following cycle 4, Ca 125 went from 39 to 60. Stopped chemo & ordered MRI----now waiting for results.
I am very worried about this but staying positive for her. She is 45, a grandmother to 3 wonderful grand kids (my great grand kids).
She is an RN & this cancer is her worse fear. Her gyn/onc has been great--does not play any "what if's" tells it like it is but with encouragement.
II would like to hear more survivor stories. Thank you all for all the support you give to each other. I have revered her to this site as well.

    I am sorry you had to come here but you will find wonderful women here who offer advice, information, support and caring.

    I was diagnosed in 2010 went through treatment and was in remission for 18 months. I am now dealing with a recurrence but I am taking Tamoxifen instead of chemo. I have been on the drug for two months and after one month my CA 125 went from 115 to 67. I am feeling very well. So far the only side effect I have is hot flashes but they are minimal. I also have a day once in a while where I feel very tired.

    I hope your daughter gets positive results from the MRI. This is a difficult journey but she is lucky to have you in her corner. Please feel free to come here whenever you need to. There is always someone here to listen.

    Diagnosis
    Your daughter is lucky that she was diagnosed so early. Many women aren't diagnosed until they are stage III or IV.
    I was diagnosed stage IIIc, papillary serous adenocarcinoma in August of 2009. It was a rough road, but I was NED (no evidenc eof disease) in March of 2010. I am still NED. I incorporated integrative therapies throughout treatment and still take an integrative approach, incorporating diet, supplements, and lifestyle to keep my body healthy and NED. It is a big change, but it is worth it to stay healthy.
    My CA-125 took a bump up from 33 to 60 between my 3rd and 4th treatments. My infusion nurse said it could be due to tumor die off, which boosts the CA-125. By my next treatment, my number was down to 17.

    I was also diagnosed this year(Jan.13,2012) Only sypmtoms were Gerds and sore throat that wouldn't go away(also bloating)...You're daughter is fortunate that she was dx at stage 2, I was dx at stage 3c. I finished my actual chemo in july and now have about 7 more months or so of avastin maint. I was on taxol/carboplatin/avastin. Taxol I was ok with, it was the carboplatin that got to me. Your daughter will be okay. Being there for her, I'm sure means the world to her. I don't come on here much, but so far these ladies have been helpful and inspiring during my ovarian cancer journey. Let us know how everything goes.

    Welcome to this site. You and your daughter have good reason to be optimistic about the future. There are many long-term stage 3 and 4 survivors, some of whom are on this board. I myself was diagnosed at stage 2b and have been NED (no evidence of disease) for almost two years. My friend is a nine-year stage 3C survivor and while she has had her share of chemo over the years, that has not stopped her from enjoying life and living life to the fullest. In fact, earlier this summer, she took an Alaskan cruise with her family, one of many, many trips she has taken over the last nine years.
