Eyebrows and lashes

Ok no one laugh at me....do your eyebrows fall out as well as lashes on carbo and taxol? i just finished my 1st cycle 8 days ago.

If so does it happen to everyone? I am having a bit of a panic attack here so any help is appreciated!

No one is going to laugh as most of us have been there
The hair on my head started coming out in handfuls about 19 days after 1st chemo. I shaved it off after and kepted a bald head till October when it started coming back in after last treatment at the end of August. Eyelashes went and eyebrows too. I had about 4 eyelashes on one side and 5 on the other by the end of the treatment so I thought it looked silly and pulled them out. I have thicker eyelashes now that they have come back in over a year later. The eyebrows came back but not as thick for me. The biggest problem I had was tht the nose hairs full out too. How can you protect yourself when you have no nose hair to filter out the junk in the air? I was more upset about that than anything else. But it does grow back. It is mind over matter, if you don't mind it does not matter. I found that being bald was fun for me, did not have to worry about how your hair looked that day. I added lots of jewerly and big earrings to match my outfits. Halloween I went as Uncle Fester with light bulb in my mouth. Can have lots of fun with it or get freaked over it. It is just hair it will grow back. Try and have a positive attitude and the time will pass quickly. Will be adding you to my prayer list. trish

    eyebrows/eyelashes
yes, that did happen to me last year on carboplatin and taxol - I coped with eyebrow pencil and eyeliner and the eyebrows/lashes were first hair to come back, shortly after end of treatment. Head hair took over a year before I felt could go without wig. It is certainly very disturbing to lose all your hair but, thankfully for me was the only side effect. My hair has come back curly and everyone admires it....for some reason....I also used Talika on eyebrows and lashes to help them grow...and supplements for hair and skin once chemo was over (did not use any during chemo as advised not to)
I wish you all the very best

    Hair
Didn't lose my brows till after the 4th chemo and lashes (kept a few but like Trish can count them) after the 5th. Hope they don't take a year to come back. I am managing well with makeup. I started noticing scalp hair the 4th week after chemo concluded. I didn't expect anything so soon but my hair has always grown fast. The hair on my chinny, chin, chin was the very first to come in. Figures. Guess everyone is different.

    I lost every eyebrow and
I lost every eyebrow and eyelash I had. Since I was wearing a wig, I just pulled it down on my forehead to cover where my eyebrows should have been. Nobody noticed they were gone! And they come back after treatment VERY quickly!

    Hair...no big deal, lost it
Hair...no big deal, lost it all. Brow and lashes went also...had nice, dark, long ones. Hair came back nicely, almost 28 months, no brows or lashes. SIGH! Miss those lashes the most. Too much dust, dirt, and wind here in Texas! debrajo

    Facial hair
I've heard that there's about a 50/50 chance of losing eyebrows and lashes. Mine thinned after the 3rd chemo, but nothing a lot of eyeliner and a little brow pencil couldn't fix. They grew back pretty fast (alas, my other facial hair grew back as fast - not having to wax was a nice treat) when I paused on chemo for a few months.

Same thing happened after the 3rd chemo, 2nd round. Not as thin, and growing back fast.

ACS offers "Look Good Feel Better" cosmetics classes and they've got great tips on brow pencils (and great swag bags too).

    Been meaning to check out
Been meaning to check out the ACS, but haven't had the time when I had the thought! They did give me a wig(!) at MD Anderson that was very dissapointing to say the least! I could have gone to Wal-mart on the Halloween isle and got a better "fright" wig. It was terrible! I ended up buying one and a friend gave me one. But I just can not get the hang of that darn eye brow pencil! I end up with lashes and brows that look like they we made for Dolly Parton! best, debrajo

    eyebrows
I like eyebrow powder. I bought a kit at Walmart in the section by the false eyelashes. It came with two colors, a highlighter and stencils. It did not cost very much.

Thanks nancibee, I knew they had stencils but the ones I looked at cost 20.00 a set. Have to try the powder because with the pencil I look like I am perpetualy surprised! best, debrajo

    Brows
Definitely go with the powder. I don't even need a stencil. I just go with my browbone and am told I look very natural. If you do the "Look Good, Feel Better" class, they will teach you. There are lots of makeup goodies and I have recycled the bag to hold my knitting when I am on the run (riding in the car, waiting for appointments).

Thank you. Im glad to hear that it really is temporary. It just seems so sad currently. I cut 10 inches off my hair 7 days after my first cycle, and today day 13 i see some strands falling out when i touch my hair. I really liked my hair short and now I will have none. I feel fabulous and have done 8 miles of walking and hiking trails this weekend. My head is in it, but now Im scared I will look sick, and then act sick. Gotta stay positive but its hard.

Doxie, I hadn't intended to get a wig and was going to make do with scarves and hats. Then I decided I didn't want strangers looking at me and knowing my business so I did get me some store bought hair. Now I wear whatever I feel like and got over caring what others see. Fatigue was the hardest part of chemo but you are much younger than I so who knows how you will be. I do know I bounced back much faster afterwards than I expected. Last week I walked an hour and a half on old logging roads in the Adirondaks and enjoyed my self so much. I felt like I could have kept going but figured I shouldn't chance it. My friend's legs hurt the next day but I was fine. So when you have some rough days, think of me. It will pass and you will feel good again.

    Just Part of Treatment
I lost my hair about two weeks after the first chemo. I wore wigs that most people could not tell that it was not my natural hair. I lost all of my lashes and brows about 1 month after my last chemo...a surprise at that point. I was much more devastated about losing the eye lashes than anything else..crazy huh?? It has been just over one year since my last chemo and I have just started going without my wig. My hair is thin but I am hoping that it will get thicker. My lashes still come and go but I have a few most of the time now, hopefully I will get more. I use a brow pencil and eyeliner and most people never noticed the lost of lashes. Most people were surprised to find out that I did not have brows or lashes. My leg hair started to come back after a year....a perk is no shaving!!!

    Good luck with your treatments,

    Pat
