Missed you guys

in Head and Neck Cancer #1
Haven't been on the board for awhile and have thought about you guys often and missed the company of fellow travelers on a strange hike. I thought I would pop in and say hi once in awhile and let you all know how well I was doing. Had hoped I wouldn't be coming back because I needed the support but that's why I'm coming back. I've had hip pain since radiation ended a year ago that was attributed to all the radiation I got in that area. It started increasing a few months back and a month back it started moving. Got an MRI that showed a tumor pinching the nerves in S2; also showed a few (5) other spots in the pelvis as well as the femur. PET/CT confirmed and showed a couple more in other bones. Looks like I'm gonna be needing some more chemo and radiation. I've got a big Grand Canyon backpacking trip planned for the second week in October that the docs are gonna let me do first and then we'll start on treatment. In the meantime I'm trying to keep the pain away so the docs are experimenting on me with different combos. I've had some undesirable reactions the last couple days that stopped my breathing for short moments but didn't send me to the ER. Hopefully we've got that worked out. It's nice to be back here with y'all but I sure would rather it wasn't for this reason. Prayers and thoughts, chants, rituals not involving animal sacrifice would sure be appreciated. Thanks for being here for me. Looking forward to getting to know all the new folks and getting reacquainted with all the old ones.

    To chime in, as you have always been there for me. I am so sorry to hear of this, but rest assured, you will step up and whip cancers **** again. I knw this as I received simillar news a few weeks back and start chemo for the second time on Monday.

    You hang in there my friend, and lean on all of us as much as you need. We are ALL here for you.

    I joined in April, so sorry you are back due to a relapse of this beast. You got prayers coming. Knowing how hard it is to fight the battle once, I am sad to think of the fight the 2nd time around for anyone but I guess we all know thats a possibility. I go in on Oct 3rd to see if my treatments worked and see if the cancer is gone, Anxiety big time. Since I was dx I have read a few books and one story that I keep in my mental pocket referenced a 90 year old lady who beat the beast 3 times. So heres to seeing 90 but after beating the beast twice. Good luck AB and look forward to your updates.

    I thought you were out hiking! Sorry for the reason for your return. Still a great group of people on here, and with your return some old timers will poke on in. I am a 2 timer at the cancer game. Radiation left me with some not so nice long term effects. I am finally getting an MRI on Thursday, I've been having double vision for 3 weeks, really makes it difficult to read or type! Will you be going back to the Bay Area again?

    Dang I was just thinking about you
    earlier today. I have resumed my plans to through hike on the Ozark Highlands Trail in December. This was a trip that got interrupted last winter by my recurrent cancer. I am now NED, seven months out, and wish the same for you Bob. May this crap be just a timeout for you too.

    but am delighted to hear you're going on your hike before you start treatment....great spirit and resolve if ya ask me.

    We'll be here to wave you thru the finish line when this treatment is over....sending positive thought, prayers, and a ton of good mojo your way.

    Teasing. Whenever anyone "drops off" the radar for a while, I tell myself that it's because they're just too busy , and that's a good thing. I'm wishing that had kept right up with you, and you just popped in to say "Hi", apologize for being gone so long, and promise to check in more often in the future.

    I'm glad, though, that you let us know what's REALLY going on with you.

    Reactions that stop your breathing? How scary - even if only for a moment.

    I have to say, you'd definately be on my list of folks that I'd expect to overcome in a round two situation with cancer. I love being a know-it-all - looking forward to you proving me right.

    You know the drill - we believe in you - glad to know that you believe in you, too.

    I emailed you a note about 2 weeks ago to see how your were? Now I know. You are a fighter and a helper (to me). Just get up to bat and knock this crap out of the park. You can and will beat this just like the nasty H&N stuff we fought. Still want to take in that Giants game sometime with you. Let me know when you're in town again, we'll make it happen

    You guys are great! So nice to know this place will always be here ready to help. For the record; this is the 3rd time. First time was chemo and radiation, second was just radiation, this time is gonna be chemo and radiation again. Good thing I kept all the chemo and radiation paraphernalia.

    Got your note as I was coming on to let the gang know I was back. Thank you so much. It was nice to know that I was missed. Let's make it a point to go to a game. Giants or 49er's. I'm still living in Marin (Fairfax)and do get over to the city now and then. Looking forward to meeting you in person and having some fun.
