Surgery scheduled Fri. 14th, Need Info

Hi all, I can't sleep due to anxiety about surgery on Friday. I'm having my ovaries removed and it's supposed to be "drive-by-surgery". The surgery only lasts for 45 mins then 4 hrs in hospital before I can be released..then back to work in 6 days..

My onco referred me to an obgyn surgeon that "Is the best in town". Well, after waiting 3.5 hrs total, he spent about 3 mins w/ me. He didn't do any kind of exam, just went off what onco said..I preregister at the hospital tomorrow....What questions should I be asking? I haven't had much time to research this...

I'm super anxious!! I had 3 surgeries on my right breast and 9 lymphnodes with a different surgeon, he always spent about 15 mins with each appt.

This is supposed to be fairly easy and common, wish I wasn't so petrified.

thanks for your input...any advice what to expect would be wonderful!!
Thanks so much Pinks!!

    Hi Joyce,
    I couldn't sleep

    Hi Joyce,
I couldn't sleep either which is why I am up on the discussion forum at 4:30 a.m. my time!

I haven't had my ovaries removed so I can't give you any advice, but I just wanted you to know that I will be watching the board to see good news later on how the surgery went. I'm sure you will be fine. Sounds like you have already been through way worse than this. Try not to worry too much, they know what they're doing even if we don't.

    Good luck, Joyce!

    *Hugs*

    get contact number for dr
Hi, From what I know and have read here, it's important to have the contact numbers handy for after surgery; trust that you dr is going to do their best. The dr comes in to see you prior to surgery, that morning, so you can always ask any last minute questions at that time. You will have his undivided attention.
I think the nurses do alot of the work, dr prepares for you behind the scenes, too. Trust, if you can. In my insomnia moments, I try to get things in order, so when I do finally wake up, it is tidy. Also, I will pick out a book that is an easy read, having nothing to do with medical issues.
    Keeping you in prayers,
    Annie

Annie, such good advice for me.....My dad is always telling me to TRUST the dr's, I'm glad you feel that way too! I never even thought about the surgeon doing the work behind the scenes...I've often wondered if they even look at my past med history and/or medication allergies. But they probably do......I also try to do something when insomonia occurs, check email, read the book "Crazy Sexy Cancer", come on here(discussion boards) I find if I just lay there, I become extremely anxious!

Sue, thanks for posting your encouraging words!! Did I tell you I used to live in Alaska too?
    Blessings,

    Happy...
Happy that your surgery is over....if you have pain meds, take them...they not only control the pain but help with the soreness....and try to move around as much as it's comfortable.....

    Wishing you better days...

3 minutes hardly seems like a long enough time to spend with you, sorry he did not spend much time with you! I am not sure what to tell you as I had a total hysterectomy. I will be lifting you in prayer, let us know how you do.

    Hi Jan & RE
That is my grandson who just turned one last week! They were home visiting from Texas and I held him almost the entire time!!
Hi RE, yeah he hardly spent anytime with me. Asked if allergic to meds, how many children, then had me sign the consent form, that was it.........He poked his head in the preop room at the hospital to say running 2 hrs. late...He didn't even go out and talk to my husband after surgery, the nurse did. There's not even a followup appt scheduled, but I'm going in to see him tomorrow regardless because I'm still quite swollen and my stomach has a rash......surgeons, can't live w or wo them lol
