NED (and: a song for all y'all)
While en route to the doc office, in the parking lot outside, and in the waiting room, I began writing a song (I'm a "weekend musician," and in a band that does my original material). I finished it when I got back home, and then figured out the chords at the office this afternoon (being essentially self-employed has its advantages-- just wish it paid better).
While songs lose a ton of impact without music, I thought I'd share the lyric here, fwiw. Especially for those many of you still in treatment or its very
difficult immediate after-effects. The first few lines sound very dark but if you stick with it I think you'll see that the gist of it is just the opposite.
Sorry for the caps, but I typed this for a lyric sheet, and I do those in caps for legibility. And I'm much too lazy to retype properly. For a change, this one actually starts on the verse rather than the chorus. It's called "Wake-Up Call." Apologies in advance for the poor grammar.
SOME OF US ARE SICK,
BUT ALL OF US ARE DYING
SOME A LITTLE FASTER,
SOME A BIT MORE SLOW
THE STORY ALWAYS ENDS,
BUT IT’S UP TO US TO WRITE IT
MAKE THE MOST OF WHAT WE’RE GIVEN
BEFORE IT’S TIME FOR US TO GO
DON’T NEED NO FINAL NOTICE
DON’T NEED NO WAKE-UP CALL
DON’T NEED NO WARNING BUZZER
GONNA DO IT ALL
DON’T NEED NO INVITATION
TO HEAR NO FAT LADY SING
DON’T NEED NO STOPPAGE TIME
I CAN DO ANYTHING
I WILL DO EVERYTHING
NO ONE KNOWS THE DAY
AND NO ONE KNOWS THE HOUR
ALL OUR DAYS ARE NUMBERED
SOME HAVE MORE, SOME LESS
WE ALL GOT A CHOICE
AND WE ALL GOTTA MAKE IT
SOME WILL DO GREAT THINGS
AND SOME JUST MAKE A MESS
DON’T NEED NO FINAL NOTICE
DON’T NEED NO WAKE-UP CALL
DON’T NEED NO WARNING BUZZER
GONNA DO IT ALL
DON’T NEED NO INVITATION
TO HEAR NO FAT LADY SING
DON’T NEED NO STOPPAGE TIME
I CAN DO ANYTHING
I WILL DO EVERYTHING
[solo over verse]
DON’T NEED NO FINAL NOTICE
DON’T NEED NO WAKE-UP CALL
DON’T NEED NO WARNING BUZZER
GONNA DO IT ALL
DON’T NEED NO INVITATION
TO HEAR NO FAT LADY SING
DON’T NEED NO STOPPAGE TIME
I CAN DO ANYTHING
I WILL DO EVERYTHING

Thanks peeps. If I ever get a recording of this I'll post a link to it. But we just had a new record come out earlier this year, so we'll be flogging that for quite awhile I reckon.
Speaking of which, for the more adventurous out there (it _is_ a punk rock band, after all, although not a hardcore band by any stretch) you can hear, and download FREE, the entire current album at crashpadband.com
(For anyone at work, there are no really bad words on the record, but there is some socio-political content.)0 -

Thanks Katie! Actually, I'm 54, so I'm Aerosmith era too, but when they first became popular was right around the time punk rock (and proto-punk) started. The difference here in the States is that Aerosmith got on the radio, and bands like the New York Dolls and the Ramones didn't.
Btw a few months ago for my 25th wedding anniversary I took some reading along for a Caribbean cruise, and the Aerosmith autobiography was one of my beach books. A good read!0
