Hi All

My sister with stage four EC has not been eating well in the last four or five days and we are worried. She will have a chemo tomorrow and we do not know how will she take it. Can some nourishment be given through I V for her to be a little stronger. Pl suggest.

I don't think they will feed
I don't think they will feed her via IV at this stage. Perhaps they can give her anti nausea meds thru IV, but not food. My mom had bland food in very small amounts. A lot will depend on what your sister tolerates. My mom never wanted to eat. It was always a struggle.

    Hi Bawa
    Hello Bawa,
I wish your sister good luck with her chemo. My husband didn't feel sick at all, but they
will give her sickness meds to cope with that. She may well be feeling much better with
eating after she has had a couple of rounds of chemo. A lot of people find that the tumour
shrinks and eating is an altogether easier experience.
My advice to you would be to give her what she can eat and as much of it as possible.
You also have the alternative of the protein drinks. I can't remember what the ones in the US are called, but most people on here will know. These drinks are amazing and as soon as my hubby started taking them, he stopped losing weight, so worth a try. They come in a
variety of flavours and are a bit like milk shake. Good luck, i'll be thinking of you.
    Prayers and hugs

    Nutrition drinks
The two big brands are Boost and Ensure and the Ensure is now coming in a clear formula and my mom likes that because the milk based stuff produces mucus. My mom eats so littlebt mouth now that whatever she can tolerate and is willing to eat is fine by us!

    Glucerna is another alternative
Boost and Ensure are loaded with sugar. Our doc advised us to avoid it, but everyone is different. 20+ grams of sugar in Ensure compared to 4-6the grams in Glucerna. Just a thought.

Wow! That's a lot of sugar!
Thanks for the suggestion. I'll look for it!
