in Breast Cancer #1
I've Been off the boards for awhile, so busy living life! My 1 yr. diagnosis anniversary passed, mammos were clear, so pretty much everything is good, I think.

I had a regular visit with my Oncologist last Fri and tomorrow I go in for a transvaginal ultrasound and an ultrasound on my right breast. After discussing some "annoying" things with her, she thought we needed to check things out. One, my right breast - lumpectomy and radiation still aches occasionally - no sharp pains or anything but just aches. She says this is not normal, so let's do an ultrasound they sometimes catch what a regular mammogram does not. and Two, I have had a urinary/bladder type infection 4 times this year, the last time I saw the on-call dr at my Ob/gyn office, they said my urine was clear. This "problem" consists of pressure in the bladder area and feeling like I have to go all the time. Each time I've had this antibiotics have seemingly cleared it up. I did kind of freak when the sample was clear, thinking I had some of the symptoms of ovarian cancer (of which an aunt of mine passed away from). I have since calmed down some, but it's still there in the back of my mind as a possibility.

One of the worst things (for me) about the initial cancer diagnosis is that now every headache, pain, ache, or wrong feeling makes me think of cancer first and anything else second. As an active person who usually feels good most of the time, this is hard. I bet before my diagnosis I hadn't seen a doctor (except my GYN) but once or twice in 10 years.

So looking for good thoughts my way for the two ultrsounds tomorrow, hoping that everything looks they way it should.

Grateful for everyone always being her for me, even if I'm not always around.

    I know how scary his can be. I hope the very best for you and your test. I know what you mean about every little ache and pain. I am only three weeks out from a bilateral mastectomy and I have that thought in my head too. Am I going to ever relax and not worry? I hope so. I wish that for you too. Please keep informed on how your test goes.

    Good thoughts and positive energy coming your way.
    Just so you know, though, I had a lumpectomy 2 1/2 years ago. I developed a rather large seroma in the surgical site that never went away. That breast always had pain and swelling after that. It never really felt normal again. I think that is more common than not. So, let's hope that's what's happening with you and that all is well in your pelvis as well.

    Unfortunately, worry comes along with this miserable disease. Hopefully, for all of us, it gets lesser in time.

    I so get it about being so healthy before being diagnosed. Myself, I never even had so much as a sore throat let alone the flu or a cold in the previous 23 years before being diagnosed!!! And other than a pap smear and mammogram every couple/few years I never had occasion to go see a doctor. I was totally blindsided by this diagnosis to say the least.

    Some days I still find it hard to believe, if that makes any sense?!!

    Hope they find out what's happening and that you're feeling better soon.

    It seems to me that all of us are scared of every pain, ache, skin change etc. - it brings all the worries to the surface. It's great to have everything checked out to make sure all's well. I have to say that I've had breast pain/tenderness since radiation. I've been told by my RO that it is common and to gently massage the breast daily - she said it is scar tissue. My oncol. concurs. So I don't think you are alone with the problem or the stress involved. I, luckily, have noticed the discomfort has lessened so far.

    I'm a little over a year out from diagnosis. I started feeling scared at about a year out-a few months ago. I take Arimidex so it causes a lot of aches and pains and I'm always scared it might be cancer instead. Besides the cancer, I haven't been sick for about 2 years! I still get sore under my arm where a few lymph nodes were removed especially if I don't keep the area stretched out.

    Hope your results turn out to be nothing!

    Your fear of every ache and pain is not unusual. I have the same fears and I am over 2 yrs past the end of treatment. A few months ago I had 3 different symptoms and was afraid to go to the dr. When I finally did it was just a fluke that they all appeared at once and none of it had anything to do with cancer.
    I am keeping good thoughts for you and sending positive energy for good results.

    Hi Eileen!
    I'm 3 1/2 years out from stage 1 bc. For about a year or so after my rads, my breast was sore and would start to ache for no reason. My onc said that was very normal. She said the surgery can interrupt the nerve function and rads can cause it too. Can't speak to the bladder issue but my sister had those symptoms when her bladder dropped. She needed a bladder lift. The pressure caused leaking which lead to infections.

    My Mom used to say, "Don't waste today worrying about what may or may not happen in the future." Great advise but not easy post bc. Enjoy today and the holiday week end.

    Ovarian cancer
    Have you had the BRCA analysis done? Was your breast cancer estrogen receptor positive? I am asking because I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in July 2010. In November 2011 I was diagnosed with breast cancer, ER+ and HER2+. I am BRCA negative. Make sure you get a transvaginal ultrasound and hopefully an abdominal CT. They should also check your CA-125. Let us know how things turn out.
