Sad this mornig.
beloved dog "Shandy" a soft coated wheaten terrier put to sleep, she was only
10years old. The past week or so she had not been eating and all she did was throw
up and lost weight, , Vet gave nausia meds, no good so we did blood work nothing
conclusive so we did x-rays yesterday and found a large tumor in the spleen a small
tumor in the liver and fluid in the stomach and lungs. If we did nothing she would just
waste away and die slowly or we could operate (with a 25% success rate) and she
would only last maybe another 3 months if she made it. As I write this with tears
in my eyes, I just remember she was by my side all through my treatment and didn't
show any signs of anything, now she knows I'm recovering it was her time to let go.
Thanks for listening.
God bless
Tonsil dad,
Dan.

So Very Sorry....
Our pets are part of us, our family, our friends, and our care givers....
I honestly have to admit, that I have a better relationship with my pets than I do with some people...that includes family and friends. They (Kali and Jazzy) were with me giving me love everyday of my treatment and being sick.
It's kind of like having had cancer, and treatment....if you are a dog (or pet) person, you get it.
Like cancer, if you haven't been a care giver or had it yourself, and the treatment to kill it in you, you just don't fully understand.
We lost Ebony, a female black lab a few years ago. We had her as part of the family for 13 years, the pain and hurt was terrible....
So even though she is gone in body, she is with us everyday in memories...and we do still think of her nearly every day at one moment or another.
Thought and Prayers Dan,

So sorry for the loss of your dog. I know how difficult it can be. Unconditional love without a doubt.0 -
Our pets are so much a part of us !
Dan,
Your descission to do this was out of love, never forget this. I too as many have had to do this with a beloved pet. Before my dx, our Collie/Shepard mix had the same issues. And my poor husband couldn't handle the decission, so I made it for our Chassie. I am so sorry for your loss...and yes they are there to comfort us through our illness. My white cat Tubby...little sweet soul that he was, gave me so much love and happiness after my surgery and rads. I laughed til I cried at his antics ! One day shortly after I started feeling better, we found him gone at the front of my recliner. I couldn't scream because of those stupid rad effects, but the tears came all the same...and a cry deep from in my soul. I tried to throw something...and landed only an inch or so in front of me. I feel your pain my friend. Warmest wishes sent Dan, Katie0 -

Our pets are a part of our family. I tragically lost my beloved little English Bulldog Rosie shortly after completing my treatment. She was with me constantly, when I was very sick. I still miss her.

I am very sorry for your loss. When my dog died four years ago I cried harder than I have when losing some other people. The thing about our pets is they love us unconditionally. Every time we walk in the door they are always so happy to invite us home. How can you not be attached to that. I am so sorry for your loss and that you had to make the hard decision.0 -

I'm so sorry you've had to go thru this. I had to put our dog down a few years ago as well. She was finenone day and then the next she had this lump in her neck and 3 days later the lump and grown to triple the size. The vet said it was cancer. Our statistics were about the same as your dogs were. Very sad but we had to do it.
Hugs

You have my sympathy. A person that doesn't have a beloved pet cannot imagine the pain you are going through. I have a nine and a half year old miniature poodle that has degenerative disk disease. Even with the pain pills each day, sometimes it brings tears to my eyes watching her walk. At times, you wouldn't think anything was wrong but at others... It tears me up just thinking about having to have her put to sleep. I hope it gives you comfort knowing that there are others out here that share the pain in your loss.Billie67 said:So sorry

Dan....I am so sorry....
you've lost your little companion. You did the right thing, it's just so heartbreaking when we come to that time when we have to keep the biggest promise we ever make to our four legged "kids"....and that is to no let them suffer.
My heart aches for you.

If It Should Be
If it should be that I grow weak,
And pain should keep me from my sleep,
Then you must do what must be done,
For this last battle cannot be won.
You will be sad, I understand,
Don't let your grief then stay your hand,
For this day more than all the rest,
Your love for me must stand the test.
We've had so many happy years,
What is to come can hold no fears,
You'd not want me to suffer so,
The time has come, please let me go.
Take me where my need they'll tend,
And please stay with me until the end,
I know in time that you will see,
The kindness that you did for me.
Although my tail its last has waved,
From pain and suffering I've been saved.
Please do not grieve, it must be you
Who had this painful thing to do,
We've been so close, we two, these years,
Don't let your heart hold back its tears.

And God bless Shandy, Dan. Of all that God created way back when, perhaps one thing that he really should modify is the average length of a dog's life. Just don't seem right- all that pure goodness and unconditional companionship, and the 10-15 year average lifespan...RIP, Caregiver Shandy.
