Swollen tonsil

I just had a tonsillectomy today. I had a swollen tonsil for about eight months. Well thats when I first noticed it. It never hurt me until recently. It was causing me some neck pain and pressure. The left one started to get bigger also but they were not the same size. I finally went to see the ENT this month and he looked at and felt it and asked about my symptoms. Well my ENT told me he doesn't see tonsil cancer but he still removed them and sent them off to be biopsied. I'm just curious could he be checking for Lymphoma. I had Kidney cancer and the few people I've asked say that RCC does not metastasis to the tonsils. I hope it's just swollen tonsils and nothing else. I will find out in a few days. I'm not really to scared just confused.

    Hi Renee, he is really checking for any type of cancer. I had squamous cell carcinoma in the head and neck region, I had a tonsillectomy to rule out that the tonsil was the primary . It's just a precaution that's all. Good luck, Vinny

    Thank you for your reply. I'm really grateful he is checking. If anything at least I don't have that pressure and pain in that area of my neck anymore. I will also have peace of mind knowing it is nothing. Hopefully I will know by Friday.

    No cause for panic
    You got to keep your tonsils much longer than I did. I lost my tonsils at the age of 7. The longer you have them, the more likely they are to act up. Being part of your immune system, it is normally best to keep them, but if they have a chronic condition, well...

    In any event, are you being monitored for RCC? As we live, things go wrong with our bodies, even under the best of circumstances. But, after cancer, each little blip on the radar seems huge. As much as we tend to worry about relapses, or even a different malignancy, life continues even as we worry.

    So, I would just watch for any odd symptoms, as you know your body better than anyone.

    This was a odd symptom because I haven't had a throat infection like in eight years. My tonsil just started growing and then causing pain and pressure in my neck. I'm not to worried but just glad doctor is looking into it. At least the pressure pain in my neck is gone. I just have the worst sore throat I've ever had hope it heals up fast.

    Checks

    As Vinney said, the surgeon has an obligation to biopsy the tissue, especially in a former cancer patient. Since the tonsiles are part of the lymphatic system, it is pretty much to be expected that he would think lymphoma first, at least as something to rule out.

    I hope it comes back 100% negative. Please share, if you are comfortable doing so.

    My husband was diagnosed with Lymphoma - L tonsil this past January. I will say that during his first visit to the ENT, he took one look at it and knew it was cancer. I'm praying that your tonsils are cancer free.
    My husband was treated with chemo and radiation. He was able to continue working throughout treatment and is now in complete remission.
    I hope your throat feels better soon. Tonsillectomies are rough. Try not to worry. Please let us know how the test results come out.

    Good news
    Just spoke to my primary doctor about some lab results and she let my know that my tonsil path report came back fine. Haven't talked to my ENT yet but she said no cancer YAY!!!! Well at least I have peace of mind and I wont have that pressure pain anymore. Now I can just deal with my regular follow up care with my RCC. I go back for my six month MRI check up in two weeks. Not to worried there. Well I'm still in allot of pain from this tonsillectomy but I'm in good spirits today.

    I am so happy reading your good news. I can just imagine getting your tonsils out when
    we are a bit older. My friend's daughter had hers out when she was 20. She too, was in
    pain.
