Nauseous and I haven't even started Chemo yet

Hi Ladies, I'm a little concerned that I haven't even started chemo and I've developed this almost constant nausea. I guess it could be nerves? I'm also wondering if it could be hormonal because I had surgery 4 weeks ago and maybe the nausea is related to surgically induced menopause?

Have any of you experienced this? The nausea is really bad at night....

Thanks for your help! I will of course bring this up with my oncologist and gyn. surgeon when I see them on Monday....

    I forgot to mention that my taste is off... everything tastes bitter

    I don't have answers on what could be causing the nausea, but I'm sure your ONC will be able to help. You can give the office a call and not wait for Monday for there are many anti-nausea meds and they might know over the phone. I want you to know that we will be right there with you as you go through the chemo sessions. For most of us the thought of chemo was scarier than the surgery. Chemo isn't fun, but it's very doable. Since you have five little ones, I'm sure you're very organized and those skills will come in handy. There will probably be four to five days after chemo where you will experience chemo fatique and need rest and sleep alot. Stocking up the house, precooking meals and accepting help from friends and family will help alot... and of course, we'll be here to cheer you on!

    Thank you for your warm and supportive message Mwee.
    I'm really trying to get everything ready at home before starting chemo. We hired help to get the house cleaned and organized from top to bottom. I've organized carpools for my kids to and from school and to their after-school activities. We have a very warm community... our friends made us dinners for two weeks after I returned home from my surgery. My mom has been coming over and staying with us most of the week. I feel very supported and ready to get down to business. My surgeon told me that all the cancer that was visible was removed and now this is my time to completely beat it and make sure it doesn't come back. He really encouraged me to make arrangements so that I can focus on getting well and staying well. My oncologist is super warm and hands-on. He invites questions and opinions... I feel very blessed.

    I think my nausea is probably a mixture of my new hormonal situation and anxiety. Hopefully I'll start some form of hormone replacement if possible... soon!

    you sound ready
    welcome to our group, sorry you get to join ! Don't forget they moved everything around when they did your surgery it could be the cause of your nausea. It is a good idea to write down any questions you have for your dr. sometimes you get in there and forget what it was you wanted to ask. Good luck!

    my taste change after surgery also I thought it was just me since I did not hear anyone talk about it any change of taste until after they started chemo. I could taste salt in everything and I hated it my taste changed so much I almost stop eating but you know moms she would not let that happen. I will keep you in my prayers and please come back here when you need a lift we are all here for each other.

    Well I don't remember too much nausea from surgery. I had a lot of abdomen cramping which would go away after I walked around for a few minutes. I do remember when the hot flashes first began I would experience a little nausea with them . Now I just have hot flashes , no nausea. You are probably right, hormones and anxiety. Doesn't hurt to call and ask doctor any questions though.

    You're a super mom!
    And it sounds like you have everything covered on the home front, with assistance from your loved ones. If the nausea gets really bad, you might want to call your doctor before Monday (hopefully s/he is available over the weekend) to get some meds to deal with it. We can certainly understand and sympathize with your anxiety. Fortunately, you don't have to face this alone. We're all here to "hold your hand" and "lend an ear" anytime you want to come to this board. And while chemo is not exactly a walk in the park, you can do it!

    Please let us know the outcome of your appointment on Monday.
