Surgery did not happen--undetected liver met

My husband went into surgery on Weds. feeling pretty hopeful. The combination of EUS, PET and CT scans had shown no distant metastisis. Right before the surgery they told us there was someting questionable on the Ct scan they had done the previous night. He went in to surgey and they came out two hours later to tell us it was a 2 cm liver met--which was able to be removed due to favorable location. Esophagectomy now off the table and Ed is Stage 4. We are so devastated-- we had come to semi-acceptance but the esophagectomy plan sent us soaring. I just don't feel like I can pick up and fight on anymore. We have lost a child and the whole "conference room talk" post surgery just brought it all back. Right now I am at Family House and trying to dig up an improved frame of mind as I get on the shuttle back to the hospital. Ed hasn't really processed it yet due to the pain meds for the liver resection. Betsy

    Your story sounds the same
Your story sounds the same as my husband. In February 2011 my husband was in the OR for esophagectomy and then 2 hours later the doctor came out to tell me that the cancer had spread to the liver (3 lesions)therefore surgery could not be performed. Looking back now, I'm happy that he did not have surgery. He had 6 chemo treatments and 10 radiation treatments. He has been off chemo for one year now and is still in remission. We are doing alternative therapy and my husband feels great, he has regained all his weight back and more. Our life is back to normal, he can eat anything. It has been 19 months now since diagnosis. His recent CT scan 2 weeks ago shows no change. I juice fruits and vegetables daily, many supplements daily and he does the vitamin C IV once a month and he is also taking low dose naltrexone (LDN) which has shown to stop cancer. My advice to you is do your research and never give up hope, just because he is a stage 4 it does not mean the end of the road.

    Questions for Lyndez
Hi Lyndez - Could you please tell me which supplements your husband is taking? My dad is also in the same boat - stage iv with liver metastasis. He finished his first round of chemo with excellent results and we're waiting for another CT scan. Also, is the naltrexone something your doctor prescribed? Thanks so much for the hope!

    Hi sfaith
    My husband takes

    Hi sfaith

My husband takes wheatgrass juice first thing in the morning, then he takes MGN3 and then half hour later he takes the rest of his supplements which consists of vitamin B,C,D,E,Alpha Lipoic Acid, Milk Thistle, Green Tea capsules, Curcumin, Modified Citrus Pectin and L-Carnitine. I make sure to juice green apples, carrots, beets, oranges and berries everyday but I sometimes add Kale or broccoli or whatever I may have. In the evening he takes Spirulina. Yes, Naltrexone must be prescribed by your doctor and it must be compounded which I get from Irmat Pharmacy in New York City, the only downfall is you cannot be on opioids while taking naltrexone as it is a opioid antagonist, I work for a doctor which made it easy for me to get as it is off-label use. I don't believe that supplements cure cancer, but it helps to keep your immune system up to help your body fight cancer. He also did high dose vitamin C IV while undergoing chemo, he was getting 85,000mg twice weekly by a Naturopathic Doctor, he is now doing it once per month as I previously mentioned. I would like to add that my husband worked 7 days a week while undergoing treatments.

    Good Luck and stay positive

    Thank-you for your post
I am trying to regroup and your post has really helped. I had been reading a book called Anti-Cancer before this happened and was starting to research some of that information. When you are able--could you give me the three best areas you think I should research? Ed is still hospitalized due to a failure in basic care following the liver resection. He will probably be released tomorrow. Betsy
