    Trash Cans?
    Denise,

I am extremely curious as to why anyone would want a "pink" trash can?

This company that makes them, are they giving anything "to the cause" or do they just like to jump on the pink band wagon looking like they support a cause?

    Just very inquisitive?

    Our local trash collectors
Our local trash collectors offer them. I like them cos I now "respect the pink"...but I think my bracelet says enough for the world to see: "Strength beyond measure". I've thought about getting one (you can just call the trash man and request one) but I am sure hubby would say "But it doesn't match the house!" Men! Also, a tiny part of me says having one outside my house make people feel a victim lives here...and dude, a SO NOT A VICTIM lives here, and she wears red cowboy boots!

One of our local excavating companies, the largest in the area, actually has a pink cement truck! It is so awesome to see, it has ribbons on it....from a company that is 99% male. They make quite a statement, and always give a toot when I pump my fist at them on the road. If I knew how to post a pic, I'd show you. Just seeing it makes me feel stronger.

WoW - @ blu, how cool is that?!!

Like Doris, I'm a bit wary of all things pink in the retail world for not much --or indeed if any-- actually goes to research/science but rather towards 'administration' costs more like it.

Although, it's a cute idea...putting breast cancer to the curb so to speak! =) But yeah, some might very well surmise a breast cancer 'victim' owns the thing.

/wonders whatever object d'art could be next up for the cause?!! LOL =)

    Jendrey, two words:
    Pink cows!

I remember being in Boston and Chicago when the "painted pig" thing was big.

Oh, heck, let's all just get liquored up and paint our towns pink! That should take some of the profit out of the hucksters!

    Perhaps...
Perhaps they are in honor of someone.....we have a large car repair shop here.....the owner's wife (it's a family run business) has stage IV bc....he had his very large sign redone in pink to honor his wife.....it has nothing to do with making donations, etc...simply to honor his wife ....

If someone wants a pink trash can, go for it!

    No Percentage Number
    Hi again Denise,

I found several web sites that offer a pink trash can as a fund raiser to help with awareness and helping families financially. There not cheap $69.99, $59.99 and another asked for $75.00.

Awareness or early detection which is often the "basis" that a lot of fund raisers use. It will never "cure" cancer. There are great reads on this topic, I read and recommend "Pink Ribbon Blues" by Gayle A. Sulik. I haven't read this one yet but plan to: "Breast Cancer and the Politics of Philanthropy" by Samantha King.

"Pinking" is such big business and though I don't have anything against awareness I have wondered is there really anyone now who is unaware of breast cancer these days giving the "Pinking" of October.

The early detection that is so often touted, doesn't say that "there is no guarantee that catching it early will ever prevent the disease to progress to stage IV". If they used that disclaimer, I would feel better about it. Kind of like the warnings they have on cigarette packages and etc. I don't object to legitimate local fund raisers or the local guy who paints a pink ribbon on his business sign to support his wife. I really don't care if a person likes pink so much that they want to paint their home pink, drive a pink car and wear all pink clothes. That is a personal decision.

I object to businesses be it local or national who try to jump on the pink bandwagon by selling anything from pink pencils to pink cars while only giving a minuscule percentage to some breast cancer cause. Do we ever here the amount that is given and to who? We already know that so little has been given to the scientists who are researching some aspect of stage IV breast cancer disease. I dislike Pink October where even the cupcake sold in the grocery store has pink ribbons. I know the profit on them isn't going anywhere.

    Off my soapbox!

    Pink Cement Trucks
Denise, we have the pink cement trucks too.

One morning last winter, driving to work, the sky was a beautiful blue, the sun on the snow sparkled like a lot of diamonds and then came that pink cement truck in the other lane. Reminding me of breast cancer, a thought that I didn't need on that beautiful winter morning.

I wondered why and the purpose of this cement truck being painted "pink".
