I had my first scan today.. (three months after my surgery). I have been so anxious about it forever so I was a bit disappointed that no one could give me any answers today. I was told, "you have an appointment with your urologist on the 30th and he will talk to you then" WHAT??? Im not waiting till the 30th to find out my results! Thats rediculas. I will be making a phone call later today and again tomorrow and again the next day till they tell me something.

    Granma Judy,

Try as hard as you can to get the report. Even call the Urologist's office. Also be aware that their is stuff in the report that sounds bad, but is really nothing. Good luck in receiving one of many NED's.

    Immediate results...or not
You need to be aware that not all facilities have the capability of producing the report for your Dr. within a very short period of time.
Yes, you do have a right to know. Cultivate a relationship with the oncology nurse; after the Dr. has seen you once after the post surgery scan, the nurse may be able to provide a summary review over the phone. Then, go to your appointment with the doc/nurse and get your hard copy.

My scans are done at a smaller regional hospital and my appointments are always a week later. But, there are only 2-3 Dr./Radiologists who read and interpret the scans, and we have to wait our turn to have them read and transcribed electronically. And I would rather have the results at the Dr's office for my appt, than have one the next day and results not be there.

Several people in my Cancer Support Group drive 2.5 or even 5 hours one way so they can have their scans and results the same day. But that was based upon their choice for a specialist or where they were living at the time of Dx.

Yes-I am very aware of the stress you are feeling. Waiting for the report is much more anxiety producing than the actual test. Hang in there! You have a big cheer team on your side. And if you can get results prior to your appointment, more power to you.

Good Luck, and hope the labs they take are good, too.

    Hi Judy,

Try not to stress too much, the first one is the roughest. Your doc should be aware that you are stressing and may even be expecting your call, if they don't yet have the report when you call they should be able to estimate when they will get it and at that time they should be willing to respond via the phone. It does get a little easier with each passing test and I hope you've been practicing the NED dance steps with your new grandson.

    Hang in there,

    Gary

    TIming of scans
With my first scan, I had the result within hours, but that was in the ER of a major hospital...and the results were negative for the digestive track (was having issues), but they did report a 6 km mass on the kidney which needed to be dealt with.

I expect followup scans will have larger delays. And that is ok. With most of our cancers, the tumors are relatively slow growing and a few days should not make a difference.

    Delays
Quite right and developing the composure not to be too driven by these events is important to getting on with one's life. Anyway, I'm betting Judy's results are going to be fine.

    I called
I rang the urology dept later today and was told the results wouldnt be posted yet and even when they could be posted, my doc was out all next week. I told her I thought it would be cruel to make me wait all that time. She said she would put a note out to one of the nurses and see what they could do. Well I got a call 1/2 hour later from the nurse. She said the results were, in fact, in and she would give them to me but I needed to keep my appointment next week with Dr Fawsey. (Of course I would ... duh ) lol any it seems I am NED :-) :-) :-) NO Evidence Of Disease!!! I am doing that dance now lol.

    Grama Judy,

No Big Deal. Easier to say after you receive the results.

    NED
Delighted but not surprised by your news Judy. Now you can get used to the idea of great-grandchildren, but there's a lot of living to be done before then!

Rae, good to see you maintaining a quiet presence. How are you doing?

I've been meaning to ask you, Gary, if you have a manual of the steps in the NED Dance. Or can it be free form?
