Bill 3 month check up

I almost hesitate to post this with so much sad news here right now, but I know I have always appreciated reading the happy news so hope this will bring a little brightness to someone's day. Bill had his 3 month check ups this week at M D Anderson - PET scan, CT scan, endoscopy, and meetings with main oncologist and radiation oncologist. We were so afraid going in - especially the day of the endoscopy I was just throwing a complete wobbler and kept going to the bathroom and crying. I had read about scanxiety here at CSN but wow - i felt like i couldn't breath. Not sure why the endoscopy in particular panicked me so much - maybe because there can be somewhat immediate feedback. Anyway we are lucky this time round - the esophagus looked good and the ulcers from radiation had cleared up. Doc took some biopsies including one of a small polyp in the stomach and everything came back clean and no evidence of cancer. CT scan and PET scan were also good though showed a little increase in damage to the lungs from the radiation which they say is normal. I know from here (and our oncologist has told us the same) that there is a high chance of recurrence and that the scans don't always pick up everything, but for now we are good and get to come home and breath for 3 months.

All the best to everyone

    Great News!!!
    Freida,

Thanks for sharing your and Bill's good news. It is wonderful to hear that Bill has clear scans. We all know our friend Scanxiety!!! And you are right; there is something about sitting in the waiting room for the endoscopy that reminds us of just how mortal and vulnerable we all are.

Anyway now it is time for some quiet thankfulness and celebrating with something you both enjoy!!

That is WONDERFUL news! Thank you for the update on Bill. This board needs good news every now & then. It provides a nice balance to the other news that comes around too often.

    Hugs to you both!

    Glad to hear it
    Hi Freida,
I'm happy to hear your good news. I just noticed your Bill was diagnosed a day after my mom who is stage 4 and has already had 13 rounds of chemo. She usually does 5 rounds and then has a scan. Her next scan will be around Sept 1st, so It will be my turn for scanxiety soon!
All the best to you and Bill,
    Stephanie

You and Bill deserve to relax as much as possible and with a good report you are certainly entitled. I know it is hard - but I am learning to appreciate one day and sometimes one hour at a time.

I will be hoping and praying that all future scans are just as good as this one.

    Cocktails to you sister!

Love and FEC every chance you get!
