She is doing pretty good. In last week of rad, i had to increase patch to 100mcg and went upto 150 mcg the following week. My last week of rad and two weeks following were thr hardest for me. Hope things go well with you. Keep reminding to take one day at a time and it will get better soon.

I didn't have to deal with the mucous....
but certainly so many on here have had to, and it was miserable. I can guarentee tho, that those mouth sores are nasty culprits, and they are high on my list of "What was the most painful part" of treatment. Now that both rads and chemo are over, her mouth is going to have a real chance to begin healing.
Remind her that now, even tho she feels like hell...she doesn't have to show up anywhere on a daily basis...that sure made a difference to me.
I'm glad you survived this, too...
Sounds like it won't be long before you can put the crayons away, and bring the pens, pencils, sissors, and knives out once again.

I am sorry for the pain...this is the worst part...but 80!!! Holy cow she's my hero!! and only 1 Fentynal patch?? I had 2 patches and took 6-7 narco a day ....your mother is tough!
Whispered a prayer the healing will come fast and the pain / mouth sores will be less and less...

Congrats on finishing treatment. I'm sure your sense of humor helped your wife through some of those difficult days. I am a 61 year old female. Happy to say, the painful sores on my lips were better week 1 post rads and completely gone week 2. Other than a brief case of thrush everything progressively got better after treatment for me. I turned the corner with energy week 5 and was full of energy week 6. I did not have the issue with mucus. I will keep you & your wife in my prayers for an uneventful next few weeks.0 -

Wow what an accomplishment at 80yrs old! I can tell you for me the first 2 weeks after rads were the worst for me. The mucous was terrible and the sores were out of control. But, by the end of 2 weeks I started to improve. For now lots of rest and freedom from not having to do that dreadful daily appt. I hope she feels better soon. My oncologist told me to measure my improvement by weeks not days and that was some of the best advice.

this disease and treatments have brought many a grown man to his knees, and young tough women to tears, so your wife is a tough woman to make it thru this. Im just 1 day post RAD and one more Erbitux treatment on Monday, but right now sucking down a boost and have my neck covered with GOOOO to treat the RAD burns. Better today than yesterday, but still sucks. God Bless both you and your very very Tough Wife, and an inspiration to all of us.0 -

Way to go! I love hearing that someone has made it to the end of one of their 'journeys' ..my rads start Wed. For six weeks. I makes me feel ok that if you can do it,anyone can. 80 yrs young, that is just fantastic. Hope the swelling and pain go away soon for you.

Well,all good things end. After last rad the mucuitus and mouth sores came back with a vengeance. Unable to put anything in her mouth including water. Was a basket case. Sunday we almost went to emergency room but since we had oncologist appt Monday we waited. Wham bang and she was being filled with fluids and appt made to put in a feeding tube which happens here shortly. Fluids have definitely improved her well being and her " let' s get on with the peg" attitude is unreal. Currently walking the halls waiting for the surgery. So another trip to take.0 -

So very sorry to hear about the mucuitus and mouth sores. The feeding tube will be a lifesaver. I'm praying for a quick recovery.0
