Been gone a few days...

I haven't come to the board for a few days. My cousin passed away last Monday. I had posted about his illness. It was difficult as he was like a big brother to me as a child, even though he was mean to me at times! Like a brother. It is sad to lose family members as we get older. I have lost all my uncles and my aunt. But to start losing family members from my own generation is really hard.

They had a beautiful church service and gathering at the hall next door. It was upbeat as he would have wanted it.

    Dear Karen
I remember you talking about your cousin. I am so sorry he lost his battle with his illness. It's hard enough to lose our elders but even more difficult to lose our contemporaries, especially ones who are beloved by us. I am so sorry for your loss.

My thoughts and prayers to you and your family. I know what you mean by having reached that 'stage' in our lives where we begin losing those who are around our age.

    So sorry
Karen , so sorry that you have lost your cousin. It doesn 't seem fair that we have to suffer the loss of loved ones with all that we endure but we do but we also.get to enjoy the good stuff too. Let's hope the good far outweighs the bad for you from now on!

    so sorry
to hear of your loss. My mother-in-law lived to the ripe old age of 96 and would always say that the toughest part of living a long life was losing those around you who you shared so many memories with.

Kind of a funny thing happened the other day.
I mentioned that my cousin was mean to me when we were kids like an older brother would be. He was 4 1/2 years older. I was a chubby kid and one time when several of us cousins were at my grandma's, Richard started singing "Roll Out the Barrel" to me and my cousin Marsha who was also chubby. My cousin Gary sang along. They were laughing. I got upset and ran to the bedroom crying. My aunt came to comfort me and told me they were goofy and not to pay attention. I laugh about it now.

Okay here's the funny thing. I was shopping at World Market the other day and "Roll Out the Barrel" started playing. What are the chances? That song is so old. I stopped in my tracks and said, "Very funny, Richard."

    That is fnny. I love
That is fnny. I love moments like that when they stop you dead in your tracks and make you giggle. Makes people around yo wonder what you are up to......That is Richards way of letting you know he is watching over you...
