    it's been a rough year!!!
Thanks everyone.. It has been a rough year and a half for my hubby. He is still on pain meds daily and he also takes meds for neuropathy, thyroid, heart medicine and he also takes a daily steroid for the inflammation in his body from the blood infection. That stuff makes him hungry. He went from 132 to 150 in the last 2 months. They are tappering the steroids down to the lowest level possible. I do not like the steroids at all. They make him nervous, edgy, can't sleep, weight gain. But on the positive side, he gets out of bed everyday.....

I was glad to see this - it has certainly been a heck of a year. You both did a great job hanging in there.

Hi Linda, Glad to hear the good news. My wife Connie has been NED for a year and a half. I guess we know what the "new normal" is now. Connie has not gained her weight back and I was wondering if steroids might be good for her. Of course she is already a little edgy, she also still does a little hydrocodone everyday which can make her a little hard to get along with. She told me once that I had changed since her diagnosis but I don't think I have. I wonder if all cancer patients are a little harder to get along with after treatment cause I swear I think she hates me sometimes. Either way, I am glad to hear Arndog is getting better and hopefully the side effects will become fewer. Wishing you both the best, Homer & Connie

I'm new to all of this 2012 but have had surgery and am 12 weeks out of rads/chemo with one NED CAT scan. I still take an occasional hydrocodone and I imagine on my bad days that my husband must think I hate him too...I'm very sorry to say that because I love him dearly and he has been right by my side through this entire ordeal. I get angry that things will never be just as they were B.C. (before cancer)and there is the fear of the unknown going forward. I still have allot of discomfort and waiting on dental implants, so frustrated. While I don't vocalize that, I'm sure there are times when it shows through and he is the one close at hand. We've been married 33 years and I think after reading how you feel, I'll go home tonight and try to be a little nicer.
I do take Lorazepam at night which does help take the edge off. Steroids worsened my mood. I can't speak for all cancer patients, but to answer your question, yes, I'm a little harder to get along with post cancer dx. Hopefully, that will not last.
