embarrassing recovery moments
started feeding tube process and had unconsciously opened my tube. jumped up to get a new syringe from the kitchen without holding tube upright...
that's right, dumped the remainder of my previous feeding in a trail all across the floor. ewwww.
add decline in mental faculties to treatment side-effects.

laughing with you !
Hello blackswampboy !
I like the idea of decline in mental faculties due to side effects, haven't used that one yet. Hoping things go smoother for you, and the ewww factor doesn't happen again ! Wishin you the best, Katie0 -

And I suppose you also haven't played the cancer card to get to pick which restaurant your family goes to, either. "Their sauce doesn't disagree with my stomach" trumps whatever appetizers the kids like.0 -
Been there...done that
I can relate, especially when the syringe works its way out of the connector when you're sneezing. At least you had a passive drip. The sneeze had me washing the walls and ceiling of Jevity (god that stuff is sticky)
I think that we get moments like this so we have something to laugh about as we tell stories of our experiences, beyond how crappy we felt or how much pain we were in.

Hey Swampy,
I just think of it as just another "senior moment" for me. You look a little too young to be having them right now but, rest assured, there will be many more in your future. That's why I always put a small hand towel in my lap when I do a feed.0 -
Who's to blame?
Obviously you want to blame the manufacturer of the feeding tube. If it were properly designed, it would hold itself up.
I can always find someone else to blame. So when you're having problems identifying a scapegoat, ask me. Rick.0 -
I was opening a new syringe
I was opening a new syringe the other day to do my feeding. I had my tube and the syringe in my left hand. Was removing the plunger with my right hand. The plunger was kind of stuck so I gave a good YANK!!! Left hand went left, right hand went right. Almost pulled my dang tube out!! My husband walked in and I guess I looked kinda pale and stunned. He asked what was wrong. I told him and he started gagging lol. He had to walk away.0 -
funny but not funny
I've done the same thing, you can laugh about it now, not so funny when you have to clean it up. A little info also keep some pop around in case your tube clogs up, pour a little pop down your tube because it will unclugg your tube a nurse told me to do it when I got first tube. Have a awesome day bjw19550 -

Your post cursed me. My syringe popped right out of my tube yesterday and jevity went all over the place. I freaked out and bent over to pick it up without clipping off my tube so stomach contents followed. Gag...
please pardon, I do sometimes have that effect on people. ;-)
I shall refrain my even mentioning my erbitux fingers, which you most surely do not want to pick up.
good health and happy feeding!0 -

good health and happy feeding!
The first time I opened Jim's tube I forgot to clamp it off and the stomach acid went right in my face. Yuck!!! The other night I was filling the bag (Jim's hands shake to much to do it,)capped it off and as I walked past the TV the swim compitition came on so I sat on the sofa to watch, putting the bag on my lap. Then the cap popped off and all the contents pored all over the sofa. What a mess.
Adventures in cancer I guess

I've done this waaaaay too many times. Worst one was when the tube opened while at WalMart. I thought I must be Chris Mathews bcause I had that "warm feeling going down my leg". It looked as though I had wet my pants. I just went on through the check-out line acting like nothing was wrong (now I go to Target).
I also hate it when I use the plunger and it jumps out of the tube and I spray whatever I have all over the area.
Have to laugh or I'd just cry but I guess it beats the alternatives.

PS - had the wet spot on the bed yet?0
