It's been a year!!!

I don't post here much but come here every day to check on everyone. I can honestly say that you all have made this past year much more bearable.I finished my treatments on July 22, 2011 then 8 wks later my Dad died of a heart attack and 18 days later my brother commited suicide. It was a struggle to get through each one of these devastating circumstances but by the grace of God I made it through. Life gets tough at times but God has told us my grace is sufficient for you. I am doing good at present enjoying every minute of life to the fullest. I am eating good and the Dr didn't lie about it taking a year to get your taste back. I have gained two pounds back after losing 48 pounds. My sweet taste is still off but getting better. I have the typical dry mouth but it is also getting better. My energy level is back full strength and I am working full time.I had a clear scope and pet scan in May.
I am so thankful for each one of you and pray for each one on this board every morning. For those of you just beginning this journey take it one day at the time and lean on the Lord and He will carry you through this trying time. For those of you recovering from this dreadful thing be patient and allow your body to heal it does take some time. For those of you facing not so good news put your trust in the Lord and He will give you peace and understanding. I love each and every one of you and will continue to pray for you.

    Thank you for posting....
It sounds as tho you weathered thru some pretty devastating events since you finished treatment, I'm so sorry about your dad and your brother.

Thank you for the reminder that we must remain patient....I am so hungry, I want to start licking the TV screen when food commercials come on....I'm even dreaming of mexican food lately...LOL.

It's good to hear from folks who are out of treatment, and have faced even more...God bless you.

    Thank you.
I am sorry you've had such an ordeal while battling this beast and
my heart goes out to you for the loved ones you lost.
But its nice to hear you are doing well and living life again. I'm only
14 weeks out of treatment and on the right path for recovery, I
still have little or no taste and no saliva but with time and Gods good
    grace it will return.
I still work, I have energy, no real complaints other than aches & pains,
dry mouth, taste and a few blisters that appear when I eat normal food.

Thanks for the positive post and may God continue to bless you abundantly.

    God bless
    Tonsil dad,

    Dan.

    prayers for you too
    I am Blessed,

Nice post with an element of tragedy. I am so happy for your recovery but deeply saddened by the loss of your father and brother. I sometimes feel naive to think it can’t get any worse and then real life happens.

Thanks for the good update; it is always nice to hear of the positive progress which can be made.

    Best,

    Matt

So glad you are doing well.
So glad you are doing well. Sorry for your losses, my prayers are with you. It is encouraging to read when some one is doing well, it gives me and I am sure many others hope. I read your profile and it seems similiar to mine. They never have found my primary, just a lymph node with scc stageIV HPV+ in right neck. 3 cisplatin and 35 radiation which will be done Friday. Pet scan was clear before treatment so am definitely praying for another one in about a month. Prayers will continue to be with you.

    My thoughts are with you
    I am blessed,
I really think your sign in name says it all ! You have been through more than most of us in only a year. I am so sorry for your losses, and my prayers are with you and your family. I am so glad things healthwise are going so good, and thank you for the reminder life spins around us so darn fast. Warmest regards, Katie

    Turn Around..
Glad things are turning around for you....

Taste an saliva more than likely will continue to improve over the next year, and if you're lucky sweet will fully return too...my sweet took over two years to completely return.

My taste is 100% and saliva around 95%....took over two years to get there though.

    Best,
    John
