Gardasil (HPV) vaccinations for boys

my 20-year-old son just made an appointment to ask about getting vaccinated. he did it on his own, knowing that his old dad has HPV-16+ SCC. yep, proud of him!

"HPV vaccine is recommended for all teen boys and men through age 21, who did not get all three doses of the vaccine when they were younger. The vaccine is also recommended for gay and bisexual men (or any man who has sex with men) and men with compromised immune systems (including HIV) through age 26, if they did not get fully vaccinated when they were younger. All men may get the vaccine through age 26, and should ask their doctor if getting vaccinated is right for them."

    Ummm OK
Although I believe that anyone regardless of gender/age or sexuality can get them....a few on here have already got them post Tx.

Also, HPV in men is not a gay thing...actually, I have never even heard it related to homosexuality before.

Though they feel it may be sexually transmitted, to what degree of "sexually transmitted" is unknown..it could just be from french kissing....whether it be homosexual or heterosexual.

It's actually to the point of over taking tobacco and alcohol related H&N Cancers within the next few years.

Several reports out stating that nearly 80% of the population under 40 have had it during their lifetime.

Don't mean to come across negative on your post...

I can share your feelings on your son'e proactive stance...kudos.

    all men
since to date HPV vaccinations have been most vocally pushed for girls and cervical cancer...pretty sure the point about gay men is that all men are at risk--even those who won't be getting it from a woman.
so no, it is not a gay thing--it is a male (and female) thing.
    cheers.
