4 weeks done with rads and even more impatient

So in 1 day I'll be 4 weeks out and I'm more impatient than ever! I want to eat real food so badly. I am able to eat some things and taste is returning mostly. I can eat yogurt but it makes the junk in my throat worse. But it's calories so I do it. I eat pudding, same thing. Avocado, eggs, cream of wheat and oatmeal. Just started Mac and cheese and today I ate some ziti but whenever I got the tomato sauce it tasted like liquid metal. I just want to eat whatever and not have it hurt or get stuck in my throat and almost choke me! I know it's only 4 weeks but ugh! I also use the PEG too but that is getting really old as well. I will be glad to say goodbye to that but dr says it'll be a while :-( also, how long was it for most of you to start putting on weight? I haven't moved on the scale at all? And lastly, when will I see improvement in my energy?
Whew I feel better now! Nothing like a little complaining to make you feel beter. Thanks for listening....once again!
Billie

We're about even Billie, when we finished
rads (tho I still have 2 chemo's to go)....I lost ground once they were over. I never used my tube till two weeks ago, but got a horrendous case of mouth sores, and haven't eaten anything by mouth since. I'm pushing the scale at 87 lbs, and am grateful I only lost somewhere between 6 and 10 lbs during this whole thing.

It's ok to get impatient, to vent....to get it out of ya, but I'd make sure impatience doesn't become a rut...this disease is teaching us we are not in control of diddley squat and we just have to wait for the "good stuff". Now I'm hear to remind you that it's coming, just not in our time slot.

    p

PS...please remind me on the days that I'm ready to eat what's on TV, even if I have to inget the TV itself!! LOL

    UGH I know
Try to be patient though. I was almost healed and tried pushing it to far, and now my throat has to re-heal all over again. It's hard, but you'll get there.

    Energy
I turned the corner as far as energy at week 5 and even more so at week 6. I still rely on atleast 1 Ensure a day to make certain I don't lose that energy. Stayed on 1 Lorazepam and 1 Advil PM to make sure I get good nights sleep. No more naps..back to work and feeling good 9 weeks out.

    Billie,
    You seem to be doing

    Billie,

You seem to be doing very well for someone just 4 weeks out. You said you are able to taste most things? Can you taste salt? When did you start having your taste back?

I will also be out 3 weeks and my mouth and throat are sore and i have no taste. Also i just has radiation and no chemo.

I have no PEG so was taking all my feeding thru mouth.

I am also getting very impatient. Can understand exactly how are u feeling.

    In the same boat!
Or maybe a slightly smaller one. :-)

I'm only cleared for some water and a bit of pureed food by mouth until I finish a swallow test, and every puree I try to eat really burns anyway. I'm still on the tube and probably will be for another 4 weeks, at least. It's pretty common to have to use it for several months after treatment, from what I've seen on the board.

I know that doesn't help much because I'm impatient too... but I wanted you to know that you aren't alone!

We are very similar. I'm about 89lbs but I lost 12lbs and can't seem to get any of it back. Guess that's why I'm so weak and lethargic?
And trust me, I've tried to get in to my TVa couple of times too! I'll get your back if you get mine :-)

About a week ago I noticed that I could taste more. A friend brought over teriaki steak tho for my family and I thought I'd just chew it up and spit it out, you know just to taste it. Well the teriaki tasted really bad like metal so I don't have it all back yet. In fact mostly sweet doesn't taste good. Salt is only slight but to be honest I've kind of avoided it because while going thru trt I went thru a stage where everything, even water tasted like the ocean! It was so gross I haven't really had a taste for salt. I'm sure it will come back tho.
