Moo Juice for everyone
Hi ditto,
So you were down to your last choice, you thought of Phrannie and you reached for the milk, oh it is so good. It is like smooth water, it does the trick. Glad you are feeling better. Now what else does Phrannie say to do?
Best,
Matt0 -
Honestly, I think trush is causing the stinging more
than the rads....the rads may cause some of it, but Thrush puts a whole different dimension on anything that hurts in our mouths.
Told ya milk was manna from heaven.....LOL. It's hard to go to milk tho, after not having drank a glass in 40 years or so, isn't it? I drank my Ensure, drank my VHF...and followed them with a full glass of whole milk...ups the calories by 170, plus your mouth and throat are soothed for a while after. THEN, for a snack?...just a glass of milk...until I got these awful mouth sores, I was drinking a gallon every other day....and as soon as the lip sores are gone, I'll be back to my moo juice.
Did the swelling in your tongue go down?

Milk worked for me too. Make it chocolate milk for the extra calories. Throughout Tx I could always count on getting down rice krispies so long as each spoon was heavy on the milk. Having had thrush 3 times, I have to agree with Phrannie. Horrible burning on my tongue with the thrush. Saw improvement within 2 days on the right thrush meds. No suggestions if the rads are causing. Glad you found that milk works. It's all trial and error. I was big on tapioca and pudding cups at the beginning but not sure if you are cleared for soft foods. If so, try lightly scrambled eggs.0 -
A side not
Ditto1,
Just a suggestion, if at all possible, let whatever you are going to drink or eat adjust to room temperatures. I found that if I did that, the burning feeling wasn't as bad. Remember, our throat and mouth are getting nuked and are as tender as a new born baby's body parts. So, the hot and cold can play havoc on us....

I have been a huge milk drinker all my life. I am now 63 and would give anything to be able to swallow it again but that is a different story. When I was able to swallow, I found that water made my throat dry. Seems strange but milk never did that. I assume it coats the throat. Nothing like a glass of whole milk to cure what ails ya.0 -

aswell since I hopefully can get it under control soon with the meds they gave me. P51 the swelling has gone down YEA compliments of the steroids Doc gave me. I agree with the luke warm vs hot or cold. Did manage to get some mashed potatoes down last nite but like i said only by sipping water thru out. So again as always thanks for your replies and I will hope the thrush and yes P51 these dreaded mouth sores get under control so I can make it thru the 2nd half of this ball game. Ditto1 13 Rads Cancer 20 end of 1st half. Stay tuned.0 -
Just tried drinking milk for
the first time since my lips turned to hamberger...not burning, tho the milk doesn't taste the same as it did a week ago...more salty/sweaty taste......but still, it's going down my gullet instead of the tube!!

Great news p! If memory serves me right, the salty taste of everything went away week 1 following Tx. I had read about a metallic taste so was actually quite relieved when I had a salty taste since it was familiar. When my lips were so bad (and I mean horrific) I found that using a straw helped.0 -

are too sore to make suction. What I did find out the other day at the hospital, tho...is that styro-foam cups don't hurt my lips like the top of a water bottle or a glass....why styro-foam works, I don't know....just softer I guess.
Milk tasted like milk last week, I thought maybe the sores had added the salty taste...still drinkable for sure....I've never gotten the metal taste yet.

I never got the metal taste either. Mine is either nothing or sweat socks.0
